ok i know this might be a noob type question but it has me stumped n i cant figure or find ne thing out so im just gonna ask... i have recently picked up a 95 240 with a ka24de motor in it the guy i bought it gave me some story about how the guy he bought it from claimed it was recently rebuilt blah blah blah... so i start reading all about ka's n from what i read they are suppose to be dogs after about 5500rpm n u can almost always feel a shudder from the hb crank n they pretty much detonate after 6000

well... the one in this car has proven several times that 6000rpm is an easy goal from any punch it actually has an auto (re4r01a) n it n shifts at around 5800 with no shudder found ne where... also the car has no noticible mods that i can see except what i've done n that is only a set of magnecor 8.5mm wires due to the others being nicked up, a stillen ramair set up that bolts on the end of the maf n replacing the maf sensor which was kinda odd due to there apparently are two oem mafs for this car n about 60 to 80 bucks seperates them my luck being horrible mine was the more expensive of the two (ne difference in them by chance)..

and all federal emmissions are intact...

can ne one shine ne light on this?? is it a normal ka?? or should i be looking into the internals or what im kinda a little baffled n dont wanna buy something i dont need later... thanks for ne help i can get guys

idk Iver never had any problems dealing with high revs. It loses power after like 5200 or so but thats normal. What did he mean rebuilt, like just pistons, new crank, valvetrain? new, used/refurbished? Fully rebuilt, bored over, yada yada?

I guess if you really wanna know you can take off the valvecover and look for new parts, or take of the oil pan and look for any signs of new rod end caps or stamps. Other than that you have to take the head off which is alot of time and work just to check piston heads and walls.

You most likely got lied to to be honest. This is why you only buy this kind of stuff if its documented, you know personally it has the parts that are being told, or you can see in it like if its not put together yet.

oh i wasn't conscerned if it was true or not due to fairly low miles n it ran fine i needed a fuel saver bad due to starting school i figured he was probably full of **** just trying to dump his problem on someone else due to it had a bad maf on it n he couldn't figure it out... i guess to simplify what im asking is is the behavior normal for a stock ka because as you just said the power loss at 5200 on this car isnt noticably present i havent had a chance to put it on a dyno to see for sure but by feel it pulls pretty steady all the way up to the shift point.... im gonna pull the valve cover this weekend so guess thats where ill start looking into it

They can rev to over 6000 all day, but they are not a full counter balanced crank. this is normal IMO

awesome sorry to sound like such a noob ive just never really dealt with a ka motor so im learning n reading a crap load of stuff apparently just as much fiction as facts about the motor... so if hb crank doesn't have a problem with the rpm why is there so much write up on needing to put a fcw crank in one is that just for extreme hp n boost builds im guessing..

I bought a KA with an unknown amount of miles on it. The head was rebuilt and ported, and that was it besides putting it all back together with new gaskets and such.

It was a beast all the way to redline. But it had a ported head.

Never drove another KA that felt the same way.
