I found this on abcnews.... it talks about how some stores are selling old tires as brand new, even though industry standards say you should not use tires that are older than 6 years, regardless of tread life...

definately worth taking a look at..

Wow... Thanks Doc. Never new that there was a shelf life for those. That is scary to know this. Now I'm going to go out to look at my tire's "born on" date.

The scary thing is I grew up in Richboro PA and Newtown PA was right down the road. I know exactly where that service station is and I've bought tires from there when my car was being inspected. Yes, that was more than 20 years ago but like the interview said, the average consumer wouldn't know this.

This is good find Doc. Hopefully people buying tires over the internet will know to ask what the last numeral digits in the "D.O.T." string.

Much thanks for posting this! Very informative. Does anyone know if there are any different policies protecting Canadian consumers?

You're an enthusiast... you don't count. It's amazing how many people research nearly every purchase they make - home stereo, TVs, major appliances... etc., etc., but when it comes to tires, a sizable purchase, all they look for is something that's round and black and cheap...

That is a great video... thanks for the info

I just went and checked on my tires for my AC, and they don't have a date on them. I figured it was because my car is from Canada. So I went to check my sisters Rav4 and it has a date NYC0708.

that is messed up.... I should call nissan
