Bear in mind that I'm 17, and after I turn 18 in november, I'm moving out, and wont have extra money for a car.

Dammit! I just talked to my mom. When we originally talked about me getting another car, my mother told me she would match me for it. I got a bit ambitious at work today, and while I was stuck in a cash wrap, I put together a chart of how much I would have towards a car(factoring in her contribution) after each payday, if I were to put away 3 different amounts of money after getting paid each time. She said she wouldnt match me now. Apparently when we were setting up negotiations for vehicle financing we were talking about a $1500 crx(what we were talking about was really a $3000 car) So she's only willing to put in $750 towards the car of my choice. I still want the 240. I asked her if she'd be willing to cosign on a loan for me, and she said okay, but I still have to pay the difference in insurance(gotta get a quote tomorrow) and be the sole payer on the loan. I know that I can do this if I can get a good interest rate(economy's still poop, right?) and can set it up to make small enough payments. Figured I'd pay down the principal as much as possible over the summer, while I'm working full time, then start making smaller payments til I can afford to make more during the holidays when I'll be getting more hours. See any faults in the plan, except me going into debt over a car?

Would you have anything to drive if you didn't get it? I can tell you that the insurance on my s13 is the cheapest out of all the cars currently on my insurance which includes an '85 accord, '93 mazda, and '94 civic hb. of course, I am like 7 yrs older and in a completely different state so that may not mean much actually. Also consider if you are gonna be broke paying bills, car payments, insurance etc. will it be worth it if you have no money to mod it?

get a loan from your bank and go to the crappy lil dealer on Canyon road in Puyallup in between 128th and 160th streets, and snatch up the black '92 240 fastback. If you dont, then i will. They're asking $3300, but I'm sure they'll go down to at least an even 3 grand.

I want a s14.

You go get it, and let me ride in it. :) Dealers on canyon scare me. Cept for the rx-7 place. OMG!

I'm sure I'll have SOME money to mod it, just not very fast or very heavily. First thing that's goin into it is a stereo(providing the stock one sucks horribly) and then a drop.

I'm paying $54/month liability on my subaru wagon right now. I'm a girl, good student discount, no tickets on my record, but I'm under 25 also.

Figured this might also help me build my credit up better.

The interest rates on loans should be low for a while. since the economy is in a recession, the FED is going to do everything they can to get us spending all this extra cash laying around. right now there is an excess of money in the system, and more money means more inflation. they want less money so there is less inflation and there fore lower all rates for the banks so the banks lower their rates for loans. someone correct me if i am wrong, im only going on a month and a half of economics. but, getting a bank to loan a 17 almost 18 year old even a small amount of money isnt going to be easy. make sure you can pay it off when you get the bills because you dont want to set up a record of bad credit this early.

I've already had a loan for my first car. Well, my mom took out the loan, but I was the main signer in it, not sure why, but we paid more than what was required, and paid off the loan within 8 months (when I sold the car), and my mother would cosign for me again. I was thinking I should get the loan soon so I can get a good interest rate. Swung by my insurance lady's office today, got some quotes-91 240sx se $532/6 months95 240sx se $667/6 months97 240sx se $710/6 monthsand for giggles87 rx-7 turbo2 $488/6 months

It totally stinks that girls get lower insurance than guys. Blatant discrimination is all it is. Laurel you might be an excellent driver, but I've never met a girl who could drive better or as good as I can. It stinks that I have to pay more because I'm a guy. I'm not complaining too much anymore since I'm over 25 and own a home.

Try not to get in too much debt. Your insurance is quite resonable, so that should be a plus. Also try to factor in the unexpected. There's always the possibility that something will come up that you don't know about. Good luck on your purchase.

I have an S14, but would probably get an S13 if I could do it over. The S14 is nice, but an S13 would have been cheaper and that would save more money for mods.

Wrong.

Statistically, women drive slower and more cautiously (and take fewer chances) than men. In addition, they (statistically) drive approximately 6 miles for every 10 driven by men.

No wonder their insurance is lower.

Every time I'm at Bondurant, there's some damn giggly-a$$ bimbo who's never driven anything faster than a Neon, who gets on the road course and just looks like a natural (once she finds the groove). Last time I was there, out of a class of 12 drivers, there were 2 females. 3rd fastest track time: A 44-year old woman who worked for a software company and drove a Camry.

my girl cousin and i got our licenses at the same time (our birtdays are a month apart) when we were 16 and within 6 months she had been in 3 accidents and totalled 2 cars. it took me 6 and a half YEARS before i had my first accident, which was being rear ended at a stop light. not that we represent all male and female drivers out there..

I wonder if there'a a statistic for how many rear end collisions occur while a woman is applying makeup and paying no damn attention to the traffic in front of her. I see women doing this so often, it scares me. Are all women unable to get up 15 minutes earlier and do this crap before leaving the house?
