Hey guys,
A year ago with probably around 112000 miles on my 93 Q45, I had a problem with my 3rd and 4th gears.
I took it to AAMCO (the socalled transmission specialists) because i knew they advertised a "lifetime" warranty. I love my Q, and thats precisely how long I plan to keep her.
The total bill was $3700. Obviously thats REDICULOUS. but I had the money so i paid.
THe breakdown was as follows:
Shift kit ..$50Aux Cooler ..50RE4 transmission Assembly set $514Fluilds $45Two Four bands $45FIlter $25 Torque Converter $329Clutch Drum 2307 Steels $12 bucks each $83Shift Epc $275 TOTAL FOR PARTS: $1826
TOTAL Labor $900
TOTAL for LIfetime warranty $1,000
GRAND TOTAL 3700 BUcks
Now, 11 months and 6 thousand miles later (118xxx on the ODO) My transmission is exibiting the SAME symptoms. But actually there was some warning this time. I heard noises as it tried to shift thru the gears occasionally.. but it would stillwork fine)Now the shifting noises are gone. but i only have 1st and 2nd gears. So i took it back 2 weeks ago.i havent seen it since.Every time i call they are "ordering parts". or giving me some Ol Bull$hit...Then i started to get mad, I mean i miss my car, and if it wasnt for my old reliable 85 Maxima("Betsy"), i would be stranded. I called this morning (monday) and they told me that they recently found a "short" and it would take even more time to diagnose this problem. Then he said he would have to CHARGE ME for this problem, then I asked approx, how much.. He said anywhere from 3 to six hours worth of labor. I didnt think to ask what the hourly rate was. BUt i feel that I am being taken advantage of. It has already taken 2 weeks, because i came in with a warranty, so I suppose they figured whats the rush, since they werent gonna make money on this job. Then i guess the shop got smart and decided to charge me for this 'short' that may or may not be there...
Any advice....SHould I get an attorney or something?Should I tell them to fix the car to the best of their ability within the warranty's paramerters. In other words, tell them that not one damn penny is leaving my pockets and going into theirs. I mean i already paid for this job, and the FREAKin thousand bucks was supposed to protect me from exactly what im going thru.SO not only have i been without my car, but i have to PAY for a job thats underwarranty too..something smells pretty fishy.Any comments, advice?
Thanks Bry
PS, if there really is a short, Isnt it possible that they somehow caused the electrical fault. I dont think that i brought it in with a short. My computer didnt say "transmission malfuncion" or anything like that.
So if it says that NOW, after they worked on it, then, THEY broke the damn thing.
