I'm having trouble with cold starts. The car tries to idle at the the regular speed for when the car is already warmed up and it promptly stalls. (It's a 1988 Silvia K with the CA18DET, imported into Canada)
Last night I pulled off the A.A.C assembly and took off the A.A.C valve (two phillip screws and the motor like thing pops off and you take out the plunger etc).I just want to confirm two things.1) Is there supposed to only be ONE spring in that part of the assembly? (I.e. there is the motor, a spring the plunger, and the piece that the plunger sits in that has the hole for the air which then all goes into the assembly that's attached to the manifold and that's ALL)
2) Is that spring supposed to go between the "motor" and the top (the part that has a flat top and then widens like a cone) of the plunger, or should it be down inside where the air would be passing through. When I took it apart the spring was between the motor and the top of the plunger but I don't see how this would "open" since it seems to "rest" closed and I assume the "motor" just pushes it closed or something...
The other thing is the FIDC Solnoid, the long bolt head shaped thing that's attached to the rest of the AAC assembly, is it what I should have cleaned instead?
I put it back together last night after spraying tons of carb cleaner through the aac assembly but it still did the same thing (tries to idle like it's already warm).
So should I do the FIDC Solenoid tonight or should I just be replacing the whole thing (AAC and FIDC solenoids)
