I was pretty surprised by this info-graphic.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/a1 ... ar-brands/

I thought the South (of the USA) would be more trucks and therefore Ford or Chevy; Especially Texas.

Nissan is sadly nowhere to be seen!

Yeah, have a closer look again. In the bottom of North America. See that Nissan burger?

It's because the most popular car they have down there is the similar to our B13 Sentra.

Pretty much exactly what I expected. I suspect that there is little correlation between Googling a brand and owning that brand. In fact, I would not be surprised if there were inverse correlation: people are cross-shopping. It's pretty well known that buyer loyalty is Toyota's best friend and domestic American brands' worst enemy. Everyone is checking out the most-marketed and known brand to decide what to buy next.

Also, while we're likely a statistically insignificant group, car folk like ourselves probably Google brands they DON'T own more often than those they do. I Google "Toyota" frequently because I'm trying to help one of my malinformed friends minimize the negative impact of their poor buying decision by fixing their stupid Camry.

Idaho, I can tell you from experience, is populated mostly by Buicks and Pontiacs. So it makes sense that everyone is cross shopping Ford via Google.

I suspect there's some significant contamination of the data, as well.

How do they know that a G search for "Ford" is for the car?

Gotta love the comment from the dimwit at the end. Camaro hasn't been built in the U.S. since the early 1990s (which changes for the '16 model year).

Did they name the source for said data determining the map?

Production at Oshawa ends in November '15, I think.

yes.
The specific data used was taken from Google searches over a 12-month period, April 2014 to March 2015. That's why it doesn't line up precisely with the 2014 Google Trends report which, for example, lists Ford as the top search for the United States rather than Toyota.

Just for Camaro. Impala and other random vehicles will be built there until 2017 at least.

It would be cool if you could access really specific information. "How many Toyota owners live in Sun City AZ?" There's a bunch of them. Especially the Prius.

I think you would need to hack the DMV to get that kind of info.

Toyota was googled so much because of the recalls. Chevy wasn't top because this doesn't count AOL searches.
