Is there any substantial way to increase the performance of the Auto transmission in the G35?

Trade it for a manual?

What don't you like?

The auto in my 07 shifts faster then I could ever shift... drive train loss is the only negative.

Yes, they make a shift improver kit...its not a quick mod though...expensive and requires upgrading the valve body in the transmission.

Another option that's much easier is the grounding wire mod. It's an easy way to improve the throttle response and shift "crispness".

Will the grounding kit affect manual mode? Or just full auto?(and thanks for the link zozo!)

Several threads about the grounding wires now, most with the Manual say it hasn't really done anything for them

make sure you get them via http://www.groudinggear.com

they have the 10 piece set you wont find other places, plus use high grade wire

i ordered mine about 2 weeks ago(its in canada) and it should be here today/tomorrow

i'll let ya know how much different it is, but supposed to be one of the best mods in the 5AT

in that case you may want to search the archived content of this forum.

I installed the grounding gear kit and did a write-up a few months ago.

I don't regret this mod at all and it's worth every penny it cost.

not to get off topic...and actually still pretty much on.

But I'm just guessing that this (grounding kit) would be a good/cheap/quick mod for pretty much any auto out there? I would assume that better spark is better spark across the board, or do G35 auto's simply have a poorly designed stock grounding system?

Foreign vehicles, especially Japanese, instead of having the switches run on the power lead, they run off of the ground lead which is in part one reason it works so well with our G's. American made cars are switched on the positive, so, I've been told, the grounding wire kits don't do so much for them

Do you guys really think your AT shifts slow??

Mine is so quick sometimes it burns the tires on the 1-2?

For an automatic there are a few things you can do generally speaking.

Higher stall torque converter... leave at a highter rpm from a lightShift kit, delays shifts and makes them happen faster... involves removing the trottle body replacing little parts.Increase the transmission line pressure.... I wouldn't try this without a scan tool and a transmission pressure gauge.

In addition to the above on my Hemi Ram I soldered a .05 ohm resistor in the wire from the transmission to the ECU that reported line pressure. This was good for a 30-50 psi increase in line pressure across the board. There is a fine line between faster firmer shifts from line pressure increase and destroying the pump! You need a kit or the ability to monitor transmission temp and pressure while you are driving. You still will not know where the breaking point of the pump is though. On the Hemi Ram any time you go past 210 psi you are in danger of below....

I installed my GroundingGear wiring kit and I love it. I noticed that the lag between gears is gone as well as the throttle response is accurate with pushing the pedal down.

I still have to connect the ECU/TCU ground wires, but I'm loving it.

As far as installing the grounding kits, would I need any experience? I am a complete noob when it comes to parts. I even had my friend install my stillen intake just in case I would mess up. I don't trust myself to mess with such a nice car heh.

The grounding kit is pretty easy to install to be honest. All you really are doing is removing bolts and putting them back on with wires. You do have to make a slit with a utility knife in the rubber grommet to the battery compartment to feed 2 cables into it, one of which goes into the passenger compartment via the rubber grommet inside the battery compartment. The 2 hardest parts was trying to get the wires bolted down around the ECU/TCU and bolting a wire to the transmission under the car (not hard, just limited space in my case).

The instructions for the GroundingGear kit say to bolt all the wires that go onto the front of the engine onto one bolt, anyone care to tell me how you accomplished that because I couldn't get it, I had to use both of the mounting points there.

Just a quick question I have since I made my own grounding wire kit. Do the grounding gear kits include a replacement for the short, factory, ground straps that go directly from the negative battery post to the fender?

I have never seen photos of the kits inside the battery compartment, so I don't know. I replaced my negative terminal and used (2) 4awg wires directly to the fender. It seemed pointless to have everything else 4awg, without including the ground "source".

Not directly. The cable that goes to the battery connects to a point on the engine, where another cable goes to the fender.

Can one of you Grounding-gear guys post the direction? It sounds a little more complete then my stillen kit and I would like to fab the rest.

Also, some of the mods that gwoods described scare me a little. Has anyone tried any of these things on a G?

P.S. Mine also shifts slow in manual mode...

Im new to the forum but i have a suggestion. Upgrade your underdrive pullyes, I have a 03 auto g35. i swapped the pullyes and i noticed a big difference in responsiveness. Specially low end. I used unorthodox racing pullies. Got them from stillen.com. You will notice a big difference if you use that fake manual mode. I have the stillen grounding kit but its sitting in my trunk. The directions suck and i work 50 hours a week and dont feel like figuring them out.

Do not upgrade the pullyes if you have a big audio system(huge amps and subs) or a supercharger.

For those considering the underdrive pulleys (or those who already have it installed) please see the on-going thread about it.

The manual for the stillen is a PDF and I don't know how to post that. It doesn't have anything that runs to the transmission or ECU. It just connects the negative battery terminal to a few stock grounding points on the front of the engine.

Once again guys, any grounding gear manuals out there?

I personally used the hyper voltage system with the extra grounding cable kit from sun auto and I was happy with the results. I just put the cables on the ground points that were easy to access... I don't know why there is such a big deal about where to put them exactly...it's not pretty but it's effective

he he... It's my G A B...

ghetto air box... I know it's a little rough around the edges... but it's proven itself so far, I'm just looking for ways to get a really clean custom setup...

Its in the developmental stages... a bit ricey I know, but I find the intake tube is like 40 degrees cooler easy, and the tin seems to be absorbing the heat nicely... see pics below
