hey whats up? i know this is off topic kinda(i am refering to a rb powered skyline still though) but the general chat has like 1 post every 2 days, lol.

any way i was just watching car and driver tv and they test drove the noble.

if you dont know the noble is car desinged by britsh sports car maker noble and is sold in europe , but it is not intended for sale in the usa..

the test driver stated that a way to get a noble in the us and drive it legally is to have someone over seas take the drive train out of the car and ship it to you in two parts, the body and the drive train. then when it gets here drop the drive train in and you can legaly register the car for street use as a kit car simply because it came in two parts and was put together here.

now if thatll work for the noble witch is in no way a kit car, but actually just a car sold in europe why wouldnt that work for any other imported car?

yes it works you just need to have all the licencing to "make" and assemble kit cars, have the car pass all saftey and emissions inspections.

someone who shall remain nameless did this method successfully for some time. its a backdoor way of doing things but it works if you go through the proper channels.

actually i dont think the car as to pass safetey standards as the nobile doesn't pass any safetey standards (read this in car in driver).

Its only a legal "kit car" if the chassis & drivetrain come from 2 different places. For example if you import an R32 GTS-T chassis only and then import an RB25DET from a different car, say Stagea, and then reassemble it its a kit car.

Importing the car in pieces is NOT an official kit car, its a disassembled production car.

Be careful, they impound & crush illegal cars, then charge YOU for the process.

Yeah. Whenever I was gathering information on importing, everything was going great up until the NHTSA notified me that it could happen. That was when I determined it would not be worth it.

Your best bet is to contact a registered importer and ask them. They have heard all these questions before, and will give you the best plan to follow. There are numerous methods to do it, but most of them are illegal and will result in your car being crushinated at your cost.

it doesnt have to come from two diffrent cars. the noble that car and drive is talking about is 1 car, as long as the drivtrain and car are sent over sepretly and put back together here it can be registered as a kit car(isnt actually but has to be considered a kit car anyway), and kit cars do not need to pass saftey emmisions(they may need to pass smog though) thats why they said keep in mind that even though you can drive it legally remember that it may not be as safe.

so i figure i can have a r32 sedan sent over to me with no engine and then a rb26dett sent over and then build the car. then i can legally have a r32 gtr powered sedan.(hell yea, thats my dream car) so itll be considered a kit car, thats cool with me.

oh and what license do you need to build kit cars? plenty of people have kit cars.

Do alot of home work as the KIT car reg differ from atate to state and FEDERAL. what legal in one state may not be legal and CAN NOT be sold in another state for the street and MAY be in violiation of FEDERAL LAWS......

I think there are other stipulations with kit cars, such as strict production limitations. There are probably other restrictions. As an example, legalizing a skyline for use on US roads involves more than shipping the powertrain and body separately followed by reassembly. You guys are dreamers, but that's good.

Most state and FEDERAL laws require thet the orginal car be only 50% or less of the new car to be classified as a kit car and elgable for a new VIN. So the importation and putting back to gether of a car does not meet the guide lines. Some of the car that have been done this way have bee taken and crushed as illegal importation of gray market laws..Read all local, state and FEDERAL laws to protect your self and DO NOT take anyone word on anything...

What state? The car probably can't leave the state.

See, what RBMOtoring and Motorex were doing, they were FEDERALIZING skylines for all fifty states. Hence the emissions, crashtesting and $15,000-$25,000 legalization process.

Anyway, a lot of DMVs aren't stupid. They know what Silvias, EVOs, Skylines, etc. are and these loopholes are tricky to navigate. It can be done. Just make sure you're careful and go through the proper channels.
