Well, this is how it started.

Yesterday I was getting ready to drop my RB25 into my 240. I took a glance at everything befor the final move. I noticed the Mounts Mac sent me were kind of a low angle compared to te ones on my motor. Thinking he sent me the wrong ones, I called him up. I e-mailed him pics of the mounts and when he called me back this is what he had to say.

Apperantly, he has been seeing alot of motor swaps from Japan that have already been swapped. My RB25 had been swapped into an R32. The wiring had been tampered with, the motor mounts were from an RB20, as well as the transmission. Even the power steering pump was for the hicas in an R32. He has a new website coming up no later than 2 weeks. On it he will put up pics of what to look for. I am new at Nissan swaps so it would have been helpful.

So now i have to buy an RB25 power steering pump, send him back all my mounts for the right ones, and buy and instal a new yolk on my drive shaft. Not Happy!

Any way, I bought my swap from Ricky's Auto in Miami. But he says they are coming like that from all over. Asked me to post up. So here it is. Can we sticky this?

i really dont see the need to sticky this, its a chance you take when buying a used engine. you need to know your importer and discuss it with them before hand.

To me, it is 50/50.

Half will be modified or tampered with in some form or another, and the other half gets lucky.

My engine had been tampered around with. Wastegate actuators had been cut (signifying use of a boost controller), main wiring harness had splices and butt-connectors near the ECU, N1 water pump, aftermarket timing belt, etc.....

It is a chance we all had/have to take, and that is the luck of the draw when you buy a used motor.

Well those are the risks you take when buying a motorset over a front clip. Personally I would never buy a motorset unless I can look it over first

I'm not saying it is a bad thing. I got an HKS SSQ, valve cover and Nismo tuned ECU with mine. It is just a buyer beware kind of thing. I ordered all my install parts befor the motor was actually delivered. If I would have waited I could have avoided some of this hassle.

You should have searched around a bit before buying from Ricky's Auto Center in Miami. Those guys are lying cheats and that's well known in the S. Fl community (I'm from Miami but living in Philly for the time being). I've actually seen their operation and it looks like friggin' amateur night over there. EVERYONE should avoid that shop like the plague. I have yet to meet someone who has had a positive experience when buying an RB from them.

My RB26 came with metal wheeled turbos! They are in great shape too. The wiring is also been modded for some kinda piggyback (AFC).

And not true. RB20 transmission works with stock 240 driveshaft and the RB20 P/S pump mounts to any RB engine. The HICAS part can be dealt with (bocked off) so that it can be used in your 240.

WE are seeing many motors and wiring with some good and bad mods to them. Most Importer are business people and not RB people so the just order motor and they do not know what is what about the RB's. what we seeing the most is RB25DET and Rb26DETT with the RB20/RB25DE trans installed which is not strong enough for the power most people want. Also harness that have been modified to fit into the R32 inplace of the RB20 and the swap into the GTS-t. Just be informed and ask the right question so that you get what you want and need with your swap....Front clip are no different. A customer got a Skyline RB26DETT clip with the RB25de RWD trans and very bad wiring in it.. Be informed, ask the right question to make you you are getting what you want. The seller may not know anything about what he is selling, picture are goodif buying over the phone or internet...
