Im almost broke my dash beating it trying to get rid of this rattle lol.

EDIT: Sorry I aparently swear in the video at the begining if anyone has young kids around
http://img844.imageshack.us/i/ylb.mp4/

It only does it at idle, rev it a little and it goes away, drive it goes away. Idling just makes her come alive. Its sounding like its coming from under my dash somewhere,

I took the vents out with no improvement, then the upper clock/vent in the middle. No change. I tried holding everything I could get my fingers on, couldnt find it.

I have no idea how to get the whole dash off and really dont want to.

Hoping you guys can spare 30 seconds to watch the listen and maybe have a better educated guess than me as to whats causing the noise or how to find it.

IT KILLING ME LOL!!

Here are some guesses
Wipers have a linkage, may be rattling
Any line rattling in the engine compartment
Loose evaporator in the heating duct
Check outside the vehicle for noise
Try to pin point the noise and frequency with a stethoscope
Turn up the idle to see if it leaves
Does colder temperature make it noisier?

Your video was not very helpful for me, but it may be cables, wires, radio mounts, body mounts...like I said these are only guesses.

With a warmed up car and heater full blast warming up the interior does it stop eventually?

Good luck

I have the SAME problem in my 99 QX4 and it's coming from the dash above the glove-box. It sounds like a fan that's loose or maybe rubbing up on something. However it is weird that it does stop doing it while accelerating. Also, if you have your fan on the 1st speed then it is barely audible but on the second one it gets pretty annoying.

I was going to do a search on here about it because it's driving me nuts as well. I wanted to take out the glove-box and and see if I can spot anything, but I never get around to doing it.

im thinking its coming for sure from inside the vhicle, you cant hear it outside (mind you I have an exhaust)

I never thought to check the glove box, sounded much higher up but I'll give it a try

I dont want to take this dash off :(

I have a similar sound, it was coming from the passenger dash area, ended up checking out my Heater motor/Fan, and my fan was missing 2 blades off of it. Making the fan rattle and vibrate while spinning. I also have a squeak or squealing fan on settings 1,2 and sometimes 3.

You said you don't notice it while driving, that might just be cause there are other noises that cancel it out. take a closer look under the glove box. If it is the blower motor, it isn't to bad to get at.

I called around the auto wreckers today and the cheapest I found was $65 Canadian, and most expensive was $100. Does anyone know if the 01's fan motor would plug and play with the 03's? EDIT - THE $65 ONE WAS FROM AN 03', SO IT DOESN'T MATTER. BONUS!

Hope this helps you out.

I had a feeling that it might be the heater fan. But the sound becomes inaudible because it actually stops to rattle and not because other noises cancel it out. It's really weird.
