I have been a lurker on these boards for a while, and have to post this today for all the Versa lovers out there. it was unfortunate, but my Versa was involved in a seven car pileup. I don't think she is going to make it, damage was pretty extensive. It surprised me how quickly I fell in love with her. I can tell you this, She kept me completely protected and if I loose her, I will replace with another Versa. Say a prayer or two for her lol.

wow.. sorry to hear about your misfortunes, but it's great that you're ok!

If you can get some pics of the damage, it would be interesting to see. If it's extensive, it would just be best if it's totaled. that way you can start fresh with a new one.

Better her than you, right? Glad to hear that you are in one piece.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of coverage did you had on her? Any gap insurance?

How did it happen?

my condolences on your loss.

I agree with EV in wishing to see pictures of the damage. One of my main concerns when I got a new car was safety (being a dad of 2 kids ages 4 & under). If you could give some information about the circumstances of the accident, that would be good too.

thanks

I dont have any pictures, but will try to get some. Basically, everyone on the highway went in multiple directions and I ended up slamming the right rear of a ford with the mid to left forward section of the V. Found out today that she is not totalled but damage equates to around 7,000.00. Thank god, because I did not by the gap insurance! The Versa handled very well, even with all 4 locked up. The actual impact was not as violent as I had braced for. The way the front end crumpled by design, really cushioned the blow. I am a little concerned, and spoke with the body shop, but believe it or not, that much damage combined with the rapid deceleration accompanied by the abrupt stop did not trigger the airbags! The shop is checking in on it and will let me know. Kinda unsettling when you think about it. I will attempt to get pics in the next day or so. Thanks for the kind words, just hoping the "man bra" (hood bra) will be covered also lol

Really glad to hear the most important part YOU, is OK !

The metal is just that and always replacable.

I want one of those Man Bras too, sounds real sexy to me.

Actually, I would be VERY concerned if $7,000 damage to the front exclusively did not pop the air bags.

In my accident, I was a Versa sandwich. Hit by a Ford truck, pushed into a Chevy SUV (the biggest one they make, at that). I had damage on both ends, totaling just shy of $8000. The bulk of the damage was to the rear, but I still took about $2500 to the front. The airbags did not pop in that case because when I hit the SUV, I was moving at a speed lower than the threshhold for the airbag trigger (usually 17 mph on most cars). To be traveling fast enough to cause that much damage to the front, one of three things happened...

1) You hit at more than 17 mph, but by some miracle hit in one of only a few select places on the front that will NOT trigger the airbags (there are usually 4 or 5 on any car, and they are SMALL)

2) You hit at 16 mph, and at just the right angle to catch one crumple zone dead-on.

3) You hit at more than 17 mph, but your airbags did not deploy.

If you have the time/desire, have your Nissan dealer (or your body shop, if they are equipped) download the data of the collision from your ECU or BCM. Most new cars are equipped with "black box" telemmetry, and you can find your speed at impact, and your delta-V (change in velocity due to impact). Some can even tell you how many G forces the impact exerted.

Well, I wouldn't expect anything too soon. I took a hit in the wheels while trying to avoid some dude who rolled his truck in front of me. Ended up skidding into the retainer wall on the freeway. The car needed an engine cradle control arm and steering knuckle. Took about 7 weeks to get parts in. So for a 7k hit you are probably looking at about 2 months due to availability of parts. Good luck to you and its glad to hear you are not hurt.

On a side note, I have determined that I absolutley despise ripple control struts. I am going to switch to some Koni's or Tociko's as soon as they are produced. The ones on my V are making all kinds of noise since putting on the strut bar and lowering springs...

I see that you live in Lexington, I am in Columbia. Were you on I-26 or I-20. (For the rest of you reading this, these two highways cause the most accidents in the area?) I was just assuming that it happened there because every accident happens there. What body shop is going to do the repairs?

I recommend the dealer and also request all OEM parts. Your car is too new to have to endure aftermarket stuff on there. Good luck.

I was 20 Eastbound at mile marker 58 approx three miles from route six, If you are from here you are well aware of exactly where I am talking! I watched people hit the breaks hard in that spot for ever, and multiple accidents, but was not to worried because I keep a good distance. Distance don't mean a thang when everyone is going in all directions! Getting the V repaired at the Nissan body shop in Irmo/ Harbison area. The seam to be pretty awesome. Total damage actually came out to 6300.00 I was advised to expect a long delay in parts availability.
