Hello to all.

I just bought a 1994 Infinit J30 and for the last 5 days I have been in love with it. In those 5 days I have commuted to CSU twice which covered about 120 of the 400 I have acquired since purchase. A few days ago the A/T light came on solid for about 5 seconds, blew it off cause I am a girl and I figured if it didn't stay on there wasnt a problem. Tonight, when I was leaving to come home, I started the vehicle the light came on and flashed a few times. Now, after reading several posts I am now aware that I need to count how many times it flashes. But I looked up in the manual and it states that its the transmission and it needs to be taken to a mechanic. There are only 104000 miles on the car and again I just bought it from a used dealer, which i dropped 2,000 down and another 2 to go. I am asking for assistance and a ballpark of what i would be looking at in regards to price if this is an issue and needs to be replaced.

Thank you for your assistance,
Respectfully,
Praying that its nothing serious

Welcome to NICO !!
The first thing you need to do is check the color of the fluid.
Use a white paper towel.
Hopefully its still pink .
Then you need to run this diag procedure.
Report back with what you find and we will try to help.

Transmission Self Diagnostics
Courtsey of Gerardjg

Transmission Self Diagnostics
using AT light below your temperature gauge on the dash
1-Warm up engine
2- Shut off car and turn ignition switch to ACC position
3-Wait 5 seconds
4-Move shifter to D
5-Turn ignition switch on do not start

AT check light should come on for about 2 seconds

6-Move shifter to 3
7- step on gas fully and release
8-Move shifter to 2
9-Move shifter to 1
10-step on gas fully and release

The At Check light should start flashing 11 flashes a
slight pause and start over again. All flashes should
be the same length, any flash that is longer indicates a
trouble the following list is what the trouble circuit or part is.

A longer flash indicates

1st Flash Revolution sensor
2nd flash Speed sensor
3rd flash Throttle position sensor
4th Shift solenoid valve a
5th Shift solenoid valve b
6th overrun clutch solenoid
7th tourqe converter clutch solenoid
8th fluid temp sensor
9th engine speed signal
10th turbine revolution sensor
11th pressure solenoid valve

Hi,

Thank you so much for you're assistance... I did the test and it seems the first flash of light is slightly delayed from the rest. Which according top you're chart is the revolution sensor... What does that mean? I took the car to aamco and they said they couldn't find any codes... Supposedly they dropped the pan and said there were visible shavings... What do you think?

The Rev sensor is mounted to the transmission, and its name is what it does :)
Was the fluid pink ? or brown and burnt smelling ?

Random note, there is usually something in most every pan that AAMCO will comment upon, for now skip their opinion and re run the test procedure to make sure of the results then download the FSM (factory service manual) for location of the part in question.

The rev sensor sits on top of the transmission. You are going to have to drop the transmission part way to take the old one off and install the new one. Don't take the car to aamco (or any place like that). They will talk to you into a rebuild and your car will shift after the rebuild like an 80's or 90's cadillac. If your not going to do the work yourself, take it to a Nissan specialist in your area (a good way to find one is-do a google search for 300zx clubs in your area and ask a member for a recommend). Worst case scenario, take it to a Nissan dealer.
