If I was to swap a vh45 into a z32 automatic then all I would need is the engine and the wire harness due to the fact that the auto transmission is the same as the transmission in the Q45 correct (and obviously the computer and mounts for the engine) or ar there more parts involved for the swap?

just a newbie trying to gain information on the swap

The pattern for bolting to the block will be different, that's why people are requiring adaptors to bolt Z32 transmissions to VH motors.

well if you wanted to put in the AUTO trans you could do that... Just use the N/A Z32 flex plate/TC and the Q45 bell housing.

Note the Q uses the Re4r03A and the n/a Z uses the RE4R01A... Twin turbo Z uses RE4R03A

yeah, but wes and mettler said

different auto transmission, still need adaptor plate, might as well drop a MT transmission into it.

which is what i'm going to be doing, auto Z32, dropping in VH45DE and mating with Z32 MT.

thats Slim's car in the picture right?

nnnnnnnegative it a pick from lost's site A.X.E.

so then it would be wise to go with the a 5sp from a n/a? (I dont have a clue how much power a n/a transmission could handle)

Ive been reasearching this for only a little while so my knowledge is not that extensive on the swap.but from my reasearch Im seeing that the best fit for me would be to purchase a 2by2 and drop the vh45 and thats it don't need too much power just enough to pull away from a certain "pony" car plus the fact that its obvious the z32 is lighter than the Q so power to weight would be improved for the n/a ( the Q's motor was made to push the heavyweight along quite swiftly)

lost = Slim

The N/A 5-speed is the same as the TT 5-speed minus a few casting differences around the bell housing. Strengths are the same.

The N/A 5-speed can be worked over a little bit to make fit the TT clutch/flywheel setup.

hah i knew it was Slim's car!

yeah, the TT and the NA Z32 transmissions are the same, they just have ever so slight differences. what you are thinking of is the rear end. NA z32's have a shorter final drive ratio in the rear end which makes them faster than TT Z32 rear ends, however they are a little weaker. The alternative, use a TT rear end and Leader Gears kit to swap out the gears of the TT rear end. That is unless you already have the NA then don't even bother, keep the NA rear end, and keep the MT transmission and toss the brick of a V6 for the VH

That's actually not completely true... the shorter rear's like the N/A are usually good for narrow power band engines (high revving N/A, boosted with oversized turbos, etc.)

When you have a very broad powerband (lost of mid-range and upper power) a longer rear like the TT and Q45 is better to use. You're able to get all of that torque to the ground for a longer period of time compared to the higher ratio. You also have lower cruising revs which can potentially get you better fuel economy to boot.

There's even a guy running a very low 3.xx rear in his Datsun and is looking to go even lower (high 2.xx rear). Everytime he put a lower ratio rear in his car, it got faster. He said it didn't feel faster... the numbers were simply better.

I'll be using the 5-speed with the Q45 3.538 differential and most likely 295-35-18 tires (I'd like to go wider though). If that doesn't give me wide gears... I don't know what would. That setup should give me a gear limited top speed of 205-210 depending on the RPM. (205 @ 7,000, 210 @ 7,200... can't remember what the VH's fuel cut was at but I'll probably change that around anyways.)
