so its time to replace my converter. high-flow is the objective, of course. i recently contacted random technology for pricing. $209 for the KA 240sx. (i've heard cheaper prices, and i'm curious about that, but thats not the issue at hand right now.) ITS BY MAIL ORDER ONLY! i live approx 25 minutes from these guys, they probably have about 500 converters in their warehouse, maybe more, and i cant even swing by, throw cash on the counter, and walk out with a converter. is there a reason for this madness? some of you business fellas (or ladies) out there may know of a reason they run it this way. i would assume that it would save them and the customer a bit of grief and money if i could just swing by to get it. granted, its a one-percenter problem, but still. any insight?

You sure they make them in house? maybe when you order it they have it shipped straight from another company that makes them and just mark it up to make profit.

It is probably mainly because of Insurance issues that could come up not saying you are going to hurt yourself but its to protect themselves for the JUST IN CASE inccidents. Just like most shops don't want you in their bays.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. I originally had a RandomTech cat, but after the welds burnt though (car was running a little rich), I had to discard the RT cat and replace it with a different brand from the local muffler shop. The muffler shop guy was laughing at me for buying into RandomTech's marketing hype. He said all aftermarket cats have the same high flow. My butt-dyno thinks he's right.
