It would be intersting to know how few of some "Limited Production" amps were made?

There has to be some info on the web about this somewhere....

SWEET amp, but would if be enough for my Xplode 6x9's?

this was sony's answer to all the other big names in car audio who had some really powerful amps... let's just say they had a little power trip and decided to mock the competition :D

hmmm well it's 28"x18"x4"... take out a tape measure and see for yourself how big this amp is...

i dunno if it's enough to power your Xplode's but you could give it a shot :D i think the general rule of thumb is 40W for every pound of amplifier... so ya it puts out a conservative 2400W RMS @ 2ohm... if you bridged your 6x9's you could feed em 2400W...that would be sweet to videotape!

original retail was $4000 US in 97/98... i think i'll buy three :thinker

haha max... well it puts out decent power, i mean you can get an Mmats 300hc modded which puts out about the same power at 1ohm and about 1/4 the size... but that's not the point :pface...

and this thing ain't exactly a class D... can draw upwards of 600 amps

so how much power does it really put out. Who cares how much it weighs vs. the power it SHOULD put out. Got a spec sheet or something?

actually no i don't have a spec sheet... but just imagine saying you have a 68 lb amp...

i tried looking up specs but there are soo many mixed reviews... one site says that it's a dual mono block amp that puts out 1000W x 2 rms @ 2ohm... others say that it's not bridgeable whereas some say it'll put out 2500W @ 1ohm... so WHO KNOWS  all you can do is imagine :pface

i mean there are more powerful amps out there, like the U.S.Amps USA-6000 which does 6000W RMS @ 2ohms bridged and draws 900 amps, but it's not as big as this Sony...

In the late 80's early 90's Phoenix Gold offered a 6 channel (75 watts per) amp that was 4 ft long and included a high output altenator. Each channel was bridgeable to 0.25 ohm for a total output near 7200 watts.

Let me start looking....

Okay, I found it, I was off by a little, it's 46 inches and it doesn't say it's stable to a 1/4 ohm, but I clearly recall it was?? I think the article said it was stable to a "nail".

Check out the price??

How do you have a retail price on an item that's not for sale? Would that be the value of the materials? the estimated market value? or sentimental value?

It's what they "offered" it for, and no one ever ordered one. So, they only have the one that was built for the demo car.

But your point is fair, if they never sold one, is there really a "Retail Price".

Maybe I'm not a true audiophile - but I cannot imagine a setup that could justify a $100k amp. Or that that amp is 100x better than say a $1k amp
