Its kind of tough to explain without drawing a picture, but I will give it a shot anyway. I was at a T-intersection making a left onto what would be the cross of the T. There is a turn lane for the the people making a right onto the road I was about to turn off of. A large truck was making a right and was completely blocking a van behind it. I pulled out thinking the intersection was clear and T-Boned the van. I was cited with "failure to yield right of way". I did everything I should have done...stopped waited for all the traffic to clear and thought I had it no problem, I wasn't flooring it to get out in front of somebody, I just thought I was making a safe turn.
Its a bad intersection, in the hour it took for the police to write the report, 6 cars had to slam on their brakes and/or swerve to miss traffic other than us. I will hopefully start the process for getting a much needed light or 3 way stop there.
