I know this has been discussed before.... I searched and found it, but the question hasnt been answered properly.

Say I buy a rwd silvia Q's s13 sr20de motor and install it in my 240. Then I went to the referee and said its a sentra motor thats the same year as my 240. Will he be able to tell if its not what i say it is? or is it the same minus the fwd configuration?

Also say i bought a sr20det long block, can i replace it with the de motor, simply by swapping over all electrical and bolting it to the de transmission? Or am I going to be the first to attempt this? (not possible)

Im looking for acutal experienced input not views or opinions.

Thanks,

sam

This HAS been discussed I believe. The FWD block is different from the RWD block. The RWD SR20DET motor is in no way legal for use in your car. I believe the same is true for the RWD SR20DE motor. A FWD block SR block DE or DET will not fit to my knowledge.

the sr20det or sr20de are both not legal to put in a 240. the only motor that is legal is a ka24, since this was the only motor that was available from the factory in the 240. also it is illegal to put a older model ka24e into a ka24de car. this is according to GA emission standards which is about the same as CA emission standards.

Yes.. but the rumor is that they have different gearing.

Ok, Thank you all!

Last thing, wiring.... I can put the distributor ignition and harness from the rwd de on the det motor... right? To avoid the hassle of buying a motorset and locating an ignitor ecu and harness.

I would end up on top because I would have about 1900 invested and have a spare motor/transmission. If the det breaks I have a de ready to go.

You can run an SR off a distributor if you want. The transmission gearing is the same between the S13 SR20DE and SR20DET, except for fifth gear.

I dont see any real advantage to losing the electronic ignition. An igniter chip only costs about 125 on ebay, and the inner engine harness is easy to find on ebay from people who recieved chopped harness's with their motorsets.
