I have a 1997 240sx w/vlsd and I was sliding around the other night. I noticed when I would drift to the left my car would slide appropriately, but when i would drift to the right my car would shutter and refused to slide. Note: this has nothing to do with my drifting technique. I used both hand brake and brake drifting techniques neither seemed to help my problem. Why would my car shutter and not break traction while drifting to the right, but be fine while drifting to the left? Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe your VLSD is worn out, you should pull it out to check it. It sounds to me that it is locking properly when the left wheel (I think thats the primary drive wheel) is spinning but when the right wheel is spinning your left wheel may not be turning due to your LSD locking it up completely. I could be wrong though, but it's a good idea to pull the pumpkin and check the gears.

1st easier check is to drain out the fluid... if it's gooeier than what normal diff gear oil supposed to be, u will know that the silicone filled coupling of the Vlsd has ruptured...
