I took the MG down to Phoenix for NOPI last weekend (trailered it) and while down there my boost controller failed me resulting in a mad boost spike, and consequently a blown head gasket. I got it apart Wed and surveyed the damage. Pistons look great, head looks great, just blew the fire ring on the rear/exhaust side of the #4 cylinder. I managed to find a OEM gasket and it's on it's way, and I'll also be installing a set of ARP studs. Here's a couple pics of the situation.

Having everything apart really tempts me to get some of those new cams... but I think I'm going to pass.

Cheers!

What happened for your BC to fail?

Always a sad day. Lets see the piston ring!

Any BC could fail due to a hole in vacuum lines. Weather its signal or output.

Electronics could have failed.Or mechanical could get clogged or stick due to crap in the lines.

The check valve/elbow in the brake booster line cracked completely off, I'm not sure if that was a cause, or a result of the boost issue...

Seriously?? Unfortunately I won't have it together until probably Tues, but we should get together if you're that close.

Hmmm, you burned the fire ring, ehh? Tells me that you either leaned-out up in the upper range due to injector duty cycle overage or your timing is too aggressive in the uppper map range. When you get a chance, drop me an email sharing the specs of your programming and equipment. Even if you had hit 30psi, you shouldn't have friend the fire ring if you have the fuel and timing set-up right. Oh well, your MG is special, so no telling what's best for it .

I'm running off that base map you sent me awhile back, only with a little extra fuel thrown in. With 660's there's no way it's an injector duty cycle issue.

I agree now that you reminded me of what size spitters you have on your engine. Your pistons look good, but somewhere along the way, you're creating a hot spot. I think it's time to get the damn thing to the dyno.

Definitely man. I work in the metro area all the time, but not in the MG . Maybe NOPI? According to their site it's not all arranged yet as far as location, but it's scheduled for June 23rd right now at Coors Field.

Sounds good man, it just sucks because my 240 friends have sr20s and i feel lonely and they think that there sr's are better and they give me crap all the time. Just want to see some other ca18s, i've only seen one other in a red coupe at bandimere, i think he was running a gt28 or something but it was pretty fast.
