I noticed on the Nissan main site that the stereo is speed sensitive audio. I've driven rental cars with that feature & I hate it. I just want my tunes to play at a regular level & stay there. Is there a way to not have it turn down when I slow down & vice versa with the stock stereo or do I have to live with that? I'd rather not have to buy a new stereo for a brand new car & speed sensitive listening is just

In the settings options for the stereo you have the ability to choose between three different speed-sensitive profiles, and also to turn off speed-sensitive volume altogether.

By default, it is actually turned off from the factory, so unless someone at the dealership jacked around and turned it on, you should be fine.

Thanks a lot EV! I knew I could count on you for tha truth. I figured there had to be different settings on that puppy. One less thing to worry about in my decision.

This is on the standard SL stereo or the upgraded audio package? I wasn't the least bit aware of it.

As far as I'm aware, it's just the standard stereo specs. Here's the link if you're curious as to where I got that info.http://www.nissanusa.com/versa....htmlI'm happy to hear that you did'nt know about it. You don't want to know about it. If you're on the freeway, for example, listening to music at a high volume-take an exit ramp & watch your music get real quiet because the car is slowing down then get louder as the car goes faster.

I have a Versa SL with the 6-disc CD changer with MP3/WMA compatibility and there is an option to turn off the speed-sensitive volume.

Hey Martin, how do you like the CVT? I'll pbobably go with that.I'm happy to keep shifting gears the way I always have w/ every car I've ever owned, but this option is tempting too. Is it really worth the extra $1000 in your opinion?

In my opinion is worth it, I use to drive manuals but this time I wanted CVT. I am happy!

That's cool. I think it's more worth it than the extra grand spent on the convenience package & sattelite radio just to get better speakers.

"better speaker" would be part of the audio package, and it's just a sub. As far as we know, the 6 speakers themselves are the same on the SL, SL Convenience, and SL audio.

However, don't knock the convenience package. If you get it, you will be hard pressed to drive a car without iKey and Bluetooth ever again. I know... I'm driving myself absolutely bonkers right now.

As for the transmission... you coudln't get me to pay the $1000 extra to STOP rowing gears. I love manuals, and I love even more that they're cheaper than automatics.

ya know what though? I don't even have a cell phone. I'm just not a big fan of talking on the phone. I wish more cars had bluetooth because people talking on their cells while driving makes me furious.I've had to open the car door without an ikey for 20+ years I don't mind having to stay old skool as far as that goes. If anything I'll just stick to the basics w/an ABS package & see if I like CVT when I get to that bridge. I've never owned a car that was'nt 20 years old & have a toyota tercel hatchback that I don't want to put another dime into.

To answer your question regarding the CVT, I personnaly believe it's worth it. Even if driving manual is the perfect way to feel like you are part of the machine, I am way too distracted to use that kind of transmission. When I drive, I prefer to turn my brain off and only worry about the road, letting the car do most of the work.

CVT also offers many advantages over regular automatic transmission. The main one, which pushed me toward this technology, is that you don't feel the car switching gear, making it a smooth ride whatever you're doing. Some people don't dig this, but for my part, I'm looking for confort over "feeling the road".

The "Audio Package" on my Versa states:

Rochford Fosgate-Powered SubwooferSpeaker Upgrade

I for one like the SVC.

I wish the volume on the Bluetooth would stay where I put it as the default is to low. I drove either a Sentra or and Altima the other day and the BT volume stayed where I put it.

We got a new Altima coupe in today and it looks great.

I have another question about the stereo. I have the upgraded system with the SL. I've been playing with the fade trying to adjust the speakers as most of the volume is from the front and I like it to "fill" the car. But the rear speakers seem to have less volume/power than the front. When I move the fade back a bit its not as loud. I've even sat in the back with just the rear speakers going to check it out and they just dont seem nearly as loud as the front. Is this just my imagination?

As I have mentioned that I drive for a dealer and get to drive a lot of different autos and seems like each has a different location for the back speakers Seeing you are setting in the left front corner of a car it is hard to put everything on even balance\fade and get a centered sound. If you could set in the dead center of the car it would probable sound great.

The first thing I do before starting out is fade back at least one or two numbers. Due to the different location of the back speakers in some autos this number will vary.

The best way is to fade all the way to the back then crank the volume way up to an exceptable level then start fading toward the front until you reach the desired sound.

It's pretty much looking like I'll have to get a CVT whether I want one or not. I can't even find an SL with manual transmission. I found one in a red HB,(makes sense to me)but that is the last color choice I would go with.I will not compromise & get an S just for the transmission. I can wait for the 2008 models if they make it worth my while.

Yes i noticed as well that the interior fill from the rear speakers is less than adequate. Of course I will be replacing the door speakers with some Focals and then adding a set of subwoofers in the hatch area for the Bass. I think that the power coming from the factory headunit is just lacking. I am just going to amp the signal to the door speakers anyway.
