This is the first RWD car I've owned and I'm about to have my pads changed. I know in FWD cars the front brakes are the ones that need to get changed regularly, while the rear brakes last considerably loonger. Is this the same with the J? Or is do the rear brakes wear faster because it's RWD? I would like to know this now so when I take it in they don't tell me I need all new pads when the liklihood is only one set needs changing. Thanks!

On mine brake pads have all required changing at the same time. Not enough pad left. If you need rotors, go with Nissan OEM, anything else warps.

"effects of poor brake bias on the street not only include sub-optimal stopping distances, but also include sub-optimal brake pad life. If a car is too heavily front-biased in the deceleration range it typically operates in, it will wear front pads more quickly due to the fact that the rear brakes aren’t doing as much of the stopping work as they could be. However, the rear brake pads will probably last forever… "

Nissan tries to set the brake bias so that with oem soft tires both the 0.9 g panic stop and the more typical 0.2-0.35 g stops are near the correct bias point with ABS/VLSD cleaning up the rest. The 0.005-0.15g on the above is where left foot brakers ride the brakes and cause problems.

The KEY WORD here is soft oem like tires which few run!

After all 90% of stops fall in the small range
