I removed my brake drums this weekend and discovered what appeared to be aluminum drum with steal insert. OK, what's the story behing this? Totally blew me away. This is so cool, not cool enough to be around due to evolution of brakes, but still..perception of mass produced Japanese car has cheep steel drums, German engineering Porsche has this kind of stuff. This car is awesome!

lol, yeah they were known to flex a bit, the 510 race cars which ere a few hundered lbs lighter woudl swap to the 240z drums to reduce unspring weight, and road race 240z's woudl ofter swapp to 510 steel drums as they flex less and provide better braking

for the best in rear drum braking use the 77-78 dual piston drum assembly wiht the 510 steel drums
