i have a 95q w/bose system just got factory rebuild rear speakersi was told that i can use any tweeter w/the bose system because the tweeters are powered by the head unit not indivudally. (is this true?) if so what decently priced tweeters will mate well w/my systemas well the drivers in the front doors r they like the rears w/their own amps or can they be swapped out w/o changing anything ?thanks\j

I was under the impression/had the understanding that the A-pillar tweeters were powered by the amp piggy-backed/driving the door speaker. That said, yes you could replace them with "any" tweeter, but I'd want to know what ohm they are (assuming ~1.5 like the rest of the speakers), because if you go (numercially) up in ohms, they'll be much less noticable. And if you go lower, you'd pick up a noticable (and possibly) unwanted front stage brightness.

Hope that helps.

Not generally, I'd say most tweeters will be either 4, 8 or possibly even 16. Some good "searching" may turn up some below 4, but I'd be surprised to find 1.5's specifically.

Maybe PMQ can find you an uber quality 1.5 ohm tweeter that would fit for 30 cents . He "says" he's good like that.

Oh snap, is that a challenge?

I can get you down to about 2 ohms. You wouldn't mind cutting another hole would you

PMQ- as our resident Q45 audio specialist, what about the question on powered vs. passive factory tweeter in the A-pillars?

Oh they're definately powered.

There's more then likely a crossover hooked up to each amp in the front doors that sends the highs to the tweeters and the lows to the midbass.

It's basically a factory component setup
