Going to work the other day, I once again noticed the taillights in a newer model Impala. After having thought about it quite a few times, I've decided to get a set. Taking the Dremmel to them in order to remove just the round light parts (look at them next time you see one of these cars and you'll understand what I mean by that) I'm hoping to do some sheet metal work to create a filler panel all the way across the rear of my '89 240SX coupe where it's taillights currently are. Either that, or butcher a donor set of 240 taillights and paint them body color to create the filler panel before figuring out how I'll mount the Impala taillights. Anyway, the point behind this will be a "sort of" Skyline looking style of taillight, not to mention there will be no other like this that I've seen. Does anyone out there have the PhotoShop skills to do this up si I can preview what it will look like before I decide?

I've thought about that same thing every damn time I see one of those impalas, but the car I had in mind was my 4 dr civic.

It would be a great mad it it could be pulled off. You may even be able to patent it and make some money.

So I'm not the only one who likes the impala tails. I say go for it if it's not too expensive.

I hate the impala tails... Only sports cars should have double-circle tails. I bet people see me from behind at night and think my koukis are really impala tails.

Im messing with ya though, Id love to see it if you pulled it off

Got those taillights at work Friday. Soon I'll start the butchering. Got smething else too but for the other end of the car. The projector bulb assembly taken from a broken set of '00 Cougar headlights. I removed everything else but the bulb assmebly and adjustments mechanisms to get it roughly the size I'll need to fit in my pop-ups. I'll post some pics around Monday or Tuesday.

instead of painting the sheetmetal around the lights maybe it'd be cool to jus polish it and spray with clearcoat then ud have a nice polish aluminum finish

Not a bad idea, perhaps someone will do that. It would kinda clash on mine though with the look I'm going for.

There is no sheetmetal on the lights.. the entire panal that has the double circles is one peice of plastic.
