T3 hired a general technican a year back, to learn Infiniti/Lexus. A dyed in the wool GM man who after a year bought his first Q [92-150k for $500] with a broken rocker arm in engine and other problems.

After a bit of weekend work [more than two with Byrons help] and our strippers out back [the cars not the residents of the Motel nextdoor] it lives again.

Had a conversation with him [like a new kid with a toy].........he hated them a month ago [to work on] but after a weeks driving he is impressed and so is his wife [whose car it is now]. Her old cars were a nice Olds 98 and a Lumina.

We are discussing the cheap mods and tweaks to make it a screamer......TCU/ecu/sway bars with stiffening washers, shocks, and TIRES.

That's 6 Q's now that are running and owned by T3 guys........after all you can't beat the purchase prices if you can stand to do your own work and find cheap parts.......[remember T3 pays roughly the same as Nico members for discount parts].........so the strippers/parts cars are a god send...........for poor people like us who don't want to spend over $3,000 per year for M&R..........yet want the car mechanically as new.

Wish I had some strippers out back.

Great story. We need some more people buying Q45, instead of telling how the sold theirs, and bought 350z's. And you know who you are.

Very reassuring to know that the guys who work on our beloved Qs own some themselves.Few places in the country, including dealers these days, where someone has real experience with a G50.

(And I am never getting married!)

You say the engine had a broken rocker arm? This may sound dumb, but I didn't know the VH45DE had rocker arms . What ratio are they? And can they be upgraded like could be done on pushrod V8s to increase lift?

I'm always interested in what the tech drives.

Been through a few dealership service departments, but the best man for the job that I've found owns a lightly-modded 1990 Q, and has had 2 others prior.

Tells me ALL I need to know right there.

Yeah, me too. When I saw the S rated tires on a tech's Q45,, I knew I was at the wrong dealer.

But those are your winter/snow tires. I would think limited use tires of S or higher should suffice, asssuming the appropriate (>94) load rating.

The only problem with most lower speed rated tires is the rating is only tested for a limited life [8,000 miles]. Even H rated are only good for 130 mph Brand New........would I drive above much above 100mph on 20,000 mile H rate Michelin Pilot H..........not on my or your life. Brand new [after a 1,000 mile beakin and rebalance] sure.

I worry about old S and T rated wet braking distances as these factors are massively traded for longevity...........H [in even a Michelin is only so so after 20,000 miles] better than T but still not like a brand new V rated tire.

Not much call for even 90 mph now except on our loop roads [I285] to keep up with traffic or some infrequent passes where I cut it too close.

Still wish tire rack would test a new and used set of tires back to back, people don't realize how much performance disappears after 10,000 miles.

I thought the construction materials, design and inspection specifications were not as stringent as for a higher speed rated tire of the same brand. That is, a higher speed rated tire of hte same brand and size is always stronger than the lower speed rated one.
