hello all.... less than a week ago on Monday i wrecked my hatchback.... it doesn't look half as bad as it actually is, the frame suffered some damage, and i can't afford to get the frame pulled back into shape(don't even know if it is possible with a unibody), so i decided that since am so attached to the damn thing i would not get another hatch back, i've always wanted a 'vert so i said if i don't fix the hatch then i'll get a vert, and due to the pace of life that am living in which a vehicle is pretty much a neccesity today i drove over 3 hours to go get this beauty!!

the guys tried to do a five speed swap and also swaped in a j/y motor, it's got a huge oil leak from the engine that i haven't bothered to look for since am gonna swap my engine into it, and he also got a crappy drive shaft which is out of balance, so the thing vibrates like a b*tch, so pretty much the plans are to swap all my good stuff from the hatch to this one and go have fun daily driving it, top down in florida ftw!!

oh wait before i leave i have a huge list of questions!!

the guys said he disabled the hydraulics form the top so it is pretty much a manual top... again where he failed while doing the swap, that was his easy way to solve the non-working top after the transmission swap... so how do i go about that??

also the whole car is pretty much rust-less except for the top of the windshield frame and the whole "TOP" extructure, it seems like mostly surface rust, but how do i go about that?? any write ups on how to take the whole top appart??

i have more questions but i can't think of them right now, i'll sure post them up as i go...

what do you guys think??

Looks good, be sure to put into the registry.

Look in the 5 spd swap thread for the top wiring.

There is a thread or two about the top of the windshield rust, just search.

thanks biggie i appreciate the input, i have in fact read the 5 speed swap thread and i am pretty familiar with what i have to do, but i tought the problem was bigger than that since i can actually operate the top manually.... is that normal?? is that usually what happens after the 5 speed swap??

There's a valve beside the pump in the trunk to switch between manual/electric top operation.

Welcome to the Vert world. Clean find BTW.
Are you asking if you will only be able to use top manually after 5-speed swap? The wiring just needs to be tweaked a bit to fool the car into thinking it is in Park for top to work with switch. This is actually a really easy fix. It is covered in the write up a bunch. Bart has probably answered enough questions to choke a horse..lol. A few wires on right side engine compartment fuse box need to be jumpered to make car think it is in park. I'm thinking of putting a toggle switch in to keep cruise control working (cruise control won't work if it thinks car is in park). I don't have much of a commute so I'm not in a real hurry on this... not sure if that is what you were asking.

am sorry to bother so much guys, call me a retard, call me whatever you like i'll take it....

am looking for the threads on how to fix the top of the windshield frame and i keep coming up with nothing, i tried "winshield frame" on the search and nothing that would answer my questions then i tried "rust on windshield frame" and pretty much the same results i looked in the faq's and nothing either, please help me! am sorry to bother!

as sort of an update am working on getting the engine out of the hatch and i got it all ready but i lackan engine hois so i started working in other areas, i got the rear shocks springs out and also the driveshaft, and also cut up the door pillars a little more....

also i was wondering if there's any other 'verts out there rocking p45's......
