A nice little "inside look" at Dai Yoshihara's FD LS2 Powered S13 Drift Car posted on MotoIQ.com. This is definitely one of my favorite S13s out there! So jealous...

Hmmm... they must have changed the rules @ Formula D. Engine and chassis makes used to have to be the same.

its a clean, super fast, custom s-13 but, chevy powered why oh why a bowtie? no hate just confusion, ive seen lots of bowtie swaps into nissans,i understand there cheap easily repairable, but is the cost+upkeep really cheaper than a nissan v8(vh-vk) with the same level of mods and tunning

Upgrades on a VH lol what upgrades? They make more power for less, the foot print is smaller, and you can make 300-2000hp depending on how much your trying to spend.

The LS series V8s are not only the most economical, but also the most practical way to have a high performance v8 powertrain. Will I get rid of my SR for one? No, but I will be doing one in another 240 alongside it, ha ha.

Not to hate but shouldn't this be in the general discussion section or hybrid section? If I wanted to read about v8's in an import I would search in the hybrid section. Sacrilegious. In my opinion.

I don't think so, as the article is more about the car itself than the motor swap.

V8 in an import isn't Sacrilegious. I resent that, haha.

Many? Which ones? Only one I can think of is the SC/GS 400...

Forget the engine... The thing I am most impressed about Dai's car is its Mike Kojima re-engineered chassis & suspension... :fap:

But it's still a 240 and this is the 'general discussion' section. :yesnod ... That tubular front end is sweet; what a cleanly purpose engineered car. On a side note, anyone know what differential that is?

One of the reasons Japan rarely put V8s in coupes is that they're cars are taxed by displacement.

I am more concerned about how his rear subframe conforms to FD regulations.

I don't think it qualifies as a 'sub-frame' since the suspension is still in tact with the stock under carriage. Of course, I don't have a 2011 rulebook in front of me.

Ahhh... you've just answered a question that I've always wondered about. This highlights the rarity of the SC400 as the only affordable (nowadays) Japanese sports coupe with a factory V8. Makes me start wanting one again...

That's actually the same reason they originally produced VTEC. (Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control)

VTEC doesn't produce any power so much as it prevents power loss that most engines are subject to. Basically just makes the engine more efficient with the power it creates. That way they could make really small engines (1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, etc) that still had to power to make it worth it.

It's a similar technology that allows my 4.5L to produce as much horsepower as an earlier Chevrolet 454 (7.4L).
