Obviously there are much better places to talk about early Datsuns. I'm just curious if anyone is even looking.

As the Nico site talks about banging gears in the vintage section I would like to see at least a picture of a old 1600 or 2000 roadster to let the younsters know what was out there before they were born.I also dreamed of the days when I could get a manual trans cars. When I turned 16 and started to buy cars I found all the American cars I could afford were autos. YuckThen I started to look at imports and have been hooked for the last 20 years. My first was a 260 z that I bought when I was 17 for $300.00 I fixed the starter and 3 ticking cam followers and beat the crap out of it till I sold it for $750.0 three months later.I would bet that a late model Nisson wouldn't take the same thrashing.Love old cars and you start to feel like you are doing some good.

The old 240Zs and 510s gave Nissan its reputation for reliability. With the exception of rust, those cars were indestructable.

I remember my friend who's father had a 2000 roadster. In it's day, it would run away from anything like it that wasn't a newer Alfa Romeo.

It was very honest car, very reliable, and the front discs, SOHC engine with twin carburetors, 5 speed, even the solid rear axle with drum brakes, made it a blast to drive or ride-in.

I saw one the other day, and if it weren't going the other way, I would have flagged him down for a ride.

My friend's sister wrecked that one. But it was the first Nissan experience for me.

Unfortunately (or fortunately if you happen to have one), the Datsun 2000 and to a lesser extent the 1600 have become "collectable", what ever that means. The price for a good one is moving up fast.

The original 240Z had a very ugly orange color as an option...ouch. My friend's got one collecting dust awaiting the time for a good restoration.

The longer it sits, the more the rust gets it. Rust is the great killer of Zcars.
