bleeding procedure for the lifters is a PITA. you gotta pull the rockers, which means you pretty much pull the cams off. Then you pull each HLA out, submerge it in oil, and use something to push the plunger down to release what little bit of air is in it. Then put it back in without getting it tilted on its side, and hope that that does the trick. Bleeding them doesn't necessarily mean you get them to stop ticking. Freaking annoying.
Now, what I would do is try to listen for exactly where your tick is coming from. If it sounds like it's the front of the motor, like out of the chain cover, could be an old chain or a worn out tensioner. Remember these motors are old junkyard motors, so don't expetc them to be in the best of shape mechanically speaking.
If it's valve cover, it's probably the HLAs. And you would know if you spun a rod bearing. It doesn't tick, it KNOCKS.
And for VA, 10-30 is fine, but I generally use 15-50 for the spring/summer/fall time of years. I can get away with the weight for winter, but I've just grown accustomed to swapping out for 10-30 when winter hits.
