Hey guys,
I have a 96 I30 auto with 267k on it. It's been through a couple of accidents and the engine transmission are slowly reaching their end.
Anyways, I want to either restore my current car or get another one. I'm trying to make a decision as to buying a max/i30 and restoring my car (I'd like to make it moderately race worthy) or to take my current mods and install them on a max/i30 with less miles.
A friend of mine said that my chassis has seen too many miles and will always be weaker than another vehicle with less miles. But I'd like some other's opinions and advice.
Here are my plans:
4th gen I30
Suspension- To start, keep my eibach springs and tokico struts (see sig for setup), switch to energy bushing where applicable. Change suspension at later date (suggestions welcome, this is my DD, but I don't mind a little bumpiness).
Warpspeed Subframe bracing Stage 1+2 (any comments welcome)
I was also thinking about running a couple of steel rods under the roof fabric welded to the roof and pillars, but I'm not sure how beneficial that would be (nice comments welcome)
Cattman rear sway bar
Front and rear STB
Wheels/Tires- I currently have Motegi MR7s with 225/45/zr17 REO40/50s, I'd like to go to a lighter rim, but I want the car to still look sophisticated. So probably another 7 spoke.
Intake/Exhaust
Combo Place racing/JWT Pop charger- with the hopes of using the carb sticker on the pop charger to pass visual smog
Exhaust- Still not sure. I haven't done my homework yet. Suggestions?
Turbo-In the distant future, I'd like to try out a rear mounted turbo.
Again, this is just an idea, but I thought it would be nice to setup a method of turning off boost easily (I'm probably nescient to what's out there and somebody has already thought of this) for engine longevity and for fuel economy when not searching for tickets
That comprises the jist of what I'm trying to do. I will probably have to get the newer engine rebuilt or just prepped for the turbo when that comes along. Especially since I can't find a 4th gen with under 100k for anything in my budget.
I'll also look into taking a little weight off as well.
