I've got a 96 I30 with about 205,000 mi on it. The dealer is getting too pricey for me and I wanted some performance parts. "rice it up" if you will. So my rear struts were going out and I purchased some tokicos for the rear and eibachs all around.

Now here's my question. Do I go for the same non-adjustable tokicos in the front or go with the illuminas? My front end dips alot right now and I've only had the stock struts for 15 months(somewhere around there). And any advice one the intake/exhaust system? I want to keep it legal but beefed up.

I spent $250 on the eibach pro kit and $95 a piece for the non-adjustable tokicos. Was that an ok price?

I can't really see the reasoning of having adjustables only in the front. Either sell the rears you have now and get the Illuminas all around, or get the same ones for the front that you have on the rear. If you put the Eibachs on stock front struts 15 months ago, your struts are blown...hence the bounce.

If you want the best intake/exhaust go for the Injen Intake and Greddy SP2 cat-back. If you want to half@ss it, try e-bay. Since you are wanting to keep it legal, do not get a y-pipe as this will eliminate the front warm up cats.

As for the prices you paid...got me. I paid 425 for my Illuminas, and 172 for my Teins.

The only reason I would have adjustables on the back instead of the front would be to stiffen the back end to get rid of the "Eibach sag" in the rear.

From a pricing standpoint, $189 for Eibachs, $410 for Illumina's

Tokico "blues" (non-adjustable) will blow-out almost as quick as your stock struts. Eibachs have a very high spring rate when compared to other aftermarket springs available for the Maxima/I30. You could sell your Eibachs and get a softer spring combined with Tokico HP's (Blues). You will save some money by buying the cheaper struts and cut the price of the new springs buy using the cash you get from selling your Eibachs. Or you could get the Tokico Illuminas and use your Eibachs.

My suggestion would be to get the Illuminas. Choosing your spring depends on what your needs are (ride, comfort, handling, looks/drop). If you are happy with the Eibachs, keep them.

For the exhaust, It depends on what you are looking for and what you are willing to sacrifice. Post up what you are looking for and we might be able to help you a little more.

Hope we could help.

Sorry about not getting back. For some reason I didn't get any notices about the replies.

Ok just to straighten up a few things. My rear struts have been bad, so I replaced them with the Tokico HPs and at the same time I switched my springs to eibachs. So springs and rear struts are new (last week). The guys at the performance shop told me that illuminas for the rear were not really necessary because there's not much weight back there and almost no handling from the rear. That's why I went with the HPs. My fronts don't need to be replaced yet, but I wanted to know whether to go for the Illuminas or not seeing as they will affect handling.

For the I/E...hmm. I want something legal or I'll have to find a shop who's willing to pass me hehe. I'd like to push a little more power out of my car. Part of the problem is that it doesn't always transfer full power. Like I'll be slowing for a stop light and it will turn green, so I step on it and I get almost no acceleration, then a jerk and it starts moving.

Sorry too many topics for one post.

How does the car feel when going over big dips in the road? If the back end is not flopping around, you should be OK with the HP's. Before I installed the Illumina's, when going over big dips in the highway (mostly over bridges), the back end would bottom out. If I had people in the back seat, it was worse. The Illumina's in the rear solved that completely.

I'll let the 4th gen guys answer the exhaust questions...

I used to bottom out with my old set up, but with the HPs and eibachs, there's no bottoming out. I should put a load in my trunk and test it out just in case, but it's been pretty nice. Just comes down to illuminas or HPs for the front?

Anyone else have suggestions for Intake, Exhaust?

I'd go w/ the y-pipe, once the engine is at operating temp you should pass emissions no problem. Best bang for the VQ buck. Ebay an intake, well I guess you need CARB out there though...Don't really know what to tell you about suspension setup.

Yes, the y-pipe will pass emissions as long as you do some "highway driving" beforehand.

JWT and Stillen both offer intakes that are CARB compliant; they come with stickers (carb compliance) and all.

I've never tried the HP's, but the Illumina's are great so far. I like a stiff ride, so it gives me that option.

I guess it's a little late to ask this since I already ordered an intake, but how is the y-pipe different than a high-flow intake? I should still be listed as a newbie lol. I ordered a high-flow intake that replaces my "box" and attaches directly to the mass airflow sensor or something like that. The shop I went to didn't have anything in their catelogs for a y-pipe for my car so I just went with that.

the y-pipe connects the exhaust manifolds to the b-pipe (cat-back portion of the exhaust).

The Y-pipe is considered to be the best "bang for the buck" power mod that you can do to your maxima. Gains of 12-15 HP at the wheels can be achieved, while gains of 17 HP have been heard of but are very rare which could be attributed to dyno error. The Y-pipe creates so much power because it removes the restrictive pre-cats that are in the stock Y-pipe, uses a larger diameter piping, has smoother mandrel bends, and was just plain built with better flow in mind. Because it removes the pre-cats you may wonder if you will still pass emissions testing. Well as long as you let your car warm up for a while before testing then you should not have a problem. The pre-cats are there to help control emissions only when the car is cold.

Excellent. I appreciate the info. That makes life sooooo much easier. I'll check the sites mentioned above for a Y-pipe.

hey man, just lurking around. i havent been here in awhile, did everyone have to open a new account ? mine wouldnt work but that is cool, i just opened up this one. the forums are really nice here. nothing going on in my camp. my car was recently shipped to nZ, and all kinds of stuff was stolen off it, and it had plenty of body damage and broken parts, so she sits in the front driveway until i can get her running again.

whats going on around here... ?

Nothing much happening here. Getting people active here would be great, tho.
