a little help

I just got a vert. I did a 5 speed on it and it has an exhaust, straght pipe. Now when i hit the gas, like my foot is in it, from 3000 to 5500 its slow as balls but when it hits 5500 rpms it starts moving agin hard. What do you guys think it could be. Timing?

check your timing tell us... could be the cts, is it like vtec at 5k? and bad gas mileage?
