I noticed a significant loss of power in my G and lousy gas milage. The dealer advised the "throttle chamber failed" (CODE P1128) then advised it was an $800 repair...can anyone clarify what my car needs and if this price is reasonable. I can buy a Bosch Throttle Body Injector(62109) for $85 or even a GP Sorenson (800-1476N) for $130, but I am not sure if this is what the dealer is refering to. I have a stock 2003 G35, just looking to get back the lost power and gas milage

thanks

I don't have first hand experience, but a search on that code is for the throttle control motor. Someone else may be able to shed some more light to the subject. I guess you are just out of your warranty. Maybe you could ask them to help you out on the price. Someone else mentioned it was cheaper to get the part at the counter yourself and then have the dealer install instead of the service dept. reselling it to you.Hope that helps.

Welcome to the forum. There is plenty of info in the FAQ section.

Yes that was me. I was told that by the service manager.Always check the price of the part with the parts department. I was also given a discount card when I purchased my G.When I needed new wipers they told me to purchase the replacement blades in parts & then showed me how to install them free. I'm very happy with my dealer. My father taught me a long time ago to be sure to take care of the service people $$$ and they will always take good care of you.I found his advise to be very true

Just out of curiousity, Telco. Who do you tip? The advisor or the technician or both?

I would say the throttle motor should be an easy install, but the part is probably very expensive.

You could try jacking one off a totalled G35!!!

IQUOTE]

The first person you are going to meet when you take your G in for the first time is the advisor. Take care of him or her. Should you have issues and wish to speak to the mechanic who worked on your car there is an opportunity to take care of the mechanic also. They will always remember you because they deal with difficult customers all day long.In order for advisors to make a little extra $$ they need to up customers bills so they can make an extra $10 or $20. When you tip you eliminate the incentive for them to stick it to you by padding the bill or recommending work that is really not needed. When undergoing my oil consumption test I asked the mechanic about purchasing an OBDll code reader. He advised me that an OBDll code reader does not supply all the codes that the ones that the dealers use and would probably be a waste of money? Theirs are over $2500. I'm not sure if that advise had a self interest or not. I cannot recall ever having read posts of G35 owners having their own code readers?
