Finally got my 90 240sx to at least fire up. When i feather the gas pedal, i can get the rpms to go up. However, if I try to give it any more gas the car says no and stalls. I cannot get it to idle for a consistent amount of time and the whole time it does idle, the rpms go up and down until it finally sputters and dies. I have replaced my coil, plugs, and mafs. I do not see any fuel leaks. Maybe TPS? All I know is I'm so close to fixing my car I can smell the smoke from the tires. I just wanna let the max rest and get a little slideways so any help would be greatly appreciated.

something isnt firing right, thats pretty obvious...i had kind of the same problem and it was my injectors picking crap from the bottom of the gas tank and getting gumy. dont run it near low on older cars. another thing could simply be the injectors. posibly anything in the wiring. u gaped the plugs properly right? and make sure you get the recomended plugs (NGK) i had Bosch and they sucked and made things worse. even the cheapest NGK's are better than ur more expensive other brands. k maybe that will help out. good luck

maybe your timing somehow got incredibly out of wack, or maybe you have a blown head gasket or something. Just a couple thoughts.

i think you have a vacuum leak somewhere and when you open up the throttle what little vacuum you do have behide the throttle plate is lost and the engine starves for air. also the ecm commands that more fuel to be used on a cold engine and when the car dumps the fuel it drowns the plugs because of the lack of air due to the lost of vacuum. when you pulled you plugs did the seem gas fouled? just a guest nothing more nothing less.

yes the last time i pulled them they did smell like gas. is there a common place to start looking for my vaccum problem? this sounds like it definately could be my problem.

well to start it would take a big vacuum leak to cause a stall problem. first off visually check all your major vac lines which should all be connected to the intake manifold. if all vac lines appear to be connected and in good shape then look at the egr valve. if it is stuck open then that is the cause of your vac leak. if all else fails you may have an intake manifold gasket leaking. a common practice in a shop is to spray carb cleaner on and around the intake manifold gasket and see if the engine clears up while running. it kind of works like a wet compression test when the oil seals the rings. the carb cleaner seals the leak for a split second. but in this case your car wont hardly start at all so i would maybe try to spray the carb cleaner while you have a buddy crank the engine and see if the engine wants to crank while doing so. if it clears up replace the gasket where you find the leak.
