A little help....options?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I don't know exactly what to call it but the "plastic bezel" that frames and holds our proximity sensors in our bumpers has broke and fall away somewhere. So the sensor still works fine and I wedged it half a$$ed back in the opening that the bezel use to occupy and it looks like crap. It's even wedged in kind of catty-wompuss but It works still...but looks like crap. I'm worried the next carwash I go through is going to yank it out all together.

So I went to order another bezel glue my sensor back into it and then glue it back into my plastic bumper right! The parts worker said we can order that right up and it only costs $499 so I said...hell then give me a gross of them! Yeh they get you by the short hairs as the cost is for whole damn new sensor. I just need the plastic part that holds the sensor and glue it back into the plastic bumper and I'm good to go. Any thoughts or options come to mind?

Thanks

ebay or a salvage yard?

Do you need just the frame/bezel or the whole enchilada?

This diagram, the sensors are #18 and the bezel looks like #19.

here is the sonar - can't find just the bezel yet...

The first thought that came up for me was to check the salvage yards in your area. While you may not find an EX there, you might be able to find another Infiniti model in the same color that used the proximity sensors. Even if they make you buy the entire sensor, it should cost less than buying from the dealer.

Though it may be more of a longshot, its also possible that there are a limited number of suppliers that manufacture these things and that other car brands might use the same size/type of sensor. The color might be similar enough that only a trained eye would notice.

Good luck.

... or if you happen to find the bezel in another color, maybe some touch up paint and some time to sand and polish the thing might be another cheap option. I'm not sure how it would hold up long run though.

I had one popped out when I hit a piece of tire on the freeway. I told my service advisor that that thing just popped put. I did not tell him about the tire. ;) Yep, the black bezel surrounding the sensor is gone, but the sensor itself where inside the bumper and still connected and beeping as it senses the ground.

Dealer said sensor is around $125 , not sure about the labor, but they fixed it in less than 30 minutes. My extended warranty covers it as bumper to bumper. I had to pay $50 for deductible. I made a mistake paying deductable, since I could have also point out some more warranty stuff like my broken cup holder.
The $50 deductible warranty bumper to bumper is actually per visit and unlimited warranty work per visit.

Thanks for the replies....some good ideas there!

I thought all the bezel's were black. My car is Dark Currant but the bezel does not match it is black...hmmm.

Yeh my sensor is wedged back in the plastic opening and the sensor never stopped working. It was once popped inside my bumper giving me the warning...annoying as hell and at least have it back where it's suppose to be....kinda.

And thanks for doing a little hunting for me on Ebay....nice!

Oh, I wasn't sure if you were talking about the front or rear sensors. I know that on my silver EX, the rear sensors are body colored. If it's the black one for the front bumper, then I would think that would make things a bit easier for you.

One other possible solution came to mind as well. A body shop may have access to certain trim parts like these that aren't available to vehicle owners via retail. Perhaps you can ask a few in your area, as I don't think it would hurt to find out; if this is the case, maybe you can work out a deal with one.

well given the lack of answers, and 2 days worth of research, there isnt anywhere to buy these bezels, and this is after calling multiple dealers, and even visiting several junkyards.

I refuse to pay 250 bucks for a new sensor for a 5 cent bezel.

Im doing the next best thing, im going to draw a new bezel up in Google Sketchit and send it to You3dit.com for manufacturing. Cross your fingers I can do this, Ive never designed anything in CAD...
