ok......two parts here......

1. whenever i fire up my sr off of a cold start.....i get a high pitched whining sound that sounds like the power steering pump whenever it needs fluid. my power steering is disconnected though.....so i have no idea what this sound could be. as the engine warms up though, it goes away like nothing happened........any ideas???

2. just recently, i've been getting a really bad squeeling sound (sounds like my belt) whenver i drop the car into a lower gear (1st or 2nd).....and as of yesterday the sound decided to make its presence felt as my car is idling in neutral........i think its the belt but i'm not sure, could it be a bent pulley.......and bad bearing in the pulley......a bad alternator......a bad water pump????.......ANY INPUT would be appreciated.......

As being an "East Coast" 240 fanatic....my knowledge isn't as in depth i'm sure as all you warm climate 240 drivers......so please help me out if you can

Make sure your belts are tight, but not too tight as to fry your alternator bearings... IE, my friends S13 SR lol.

Try also to see if the whirring or squeel goes away when the clutch pedel is pushed in.....if it does change then its most likely a worn throwout bearing.

for the t.o. bearing to be going wouldn't it be a grinding sound instead??? also, if it is the t.o. bearing, would the noise go away when i press in the clutch or would it go away when i let go of the clutch???
