a little confirmation please?

To start, I have a CA18DET with a 14" electric fan.

the problemis when driving during daytime hours, i charge 13.5v or so normal. During night driving, it will charge 13.4v while cruising, but will charge in the low 12v Range. Is it alternator or battery?

My friend and I are debating which it is and I think its the alternator.

It's neither, actually. That would be the voltage regulator. But since it's part of the alternator the point is kinda moot.
