Yes I did. The 06 went from 12/31/05 to 8/31/12 with 171796 happy and enjoyable miles
On a recent post regarding VPP, I discovered that I was eligible so it was a good deal without weeks and months of haggling like the last time.
There were only two 2012 6 speed manuals within 300 miles. The other one was a demo with 3800 miles and they would make no price adjustment on the mileage. They said if the vehicle was never registered it was still considered brand new.
Not to me it didn't.
This one was a few bucks more and I love it except for one item which I will b**** about first to Infiniti Customer Service next week
SVTCOBRA wrote:AND, are you going to run REGULAR gas in a car that the manual says REQUIRES premium????
What else is there :chuckle:
It comes with a full tank of regular and it runs fine. I had a long conversation with the service guys prior to purchase on this issue as well as oil. They recommend NO synthetic oil

The manual is thick and says a lot of things. Some are hard facts and others can be ignored.
I can tell you that my old G still had the original transmission and differential fluid with no adverse affects in almost 7 years. Between the savings on that and doing 48 of the 53 oil changes myself and the savings of $.30 on 7157.921gallons of gasoline which comes to roughly $2747.00, I just put those $$$$ towards a new G37S

So, the dealership said that regular was OK regardless of the owner's manual. Interesting.....have to wonder if that is a sales ploy....
Like I've said before, I think you can get away with less octane in a MANUAL vehicle due to the driver determining when it shifts....know so from owning two pathys (manual and auto).
Did they give any reasons for NOT using synthetic??? Again, wondering if sales ploy to try and say it's less expensive to own than what it is.
Once you get her broken it, would be interested to know if you hear any spark knocking with a load on the engine.

I think that you proved with your 06 that the owner's manual is correct and that there is no harm in running regular gas which the owner's manual says is OK....

I hope in this case that you prove the 2012 owner's manual to be wrong!!

Again, CONGRATS!!!!!!
(need to celebrate with a trip to NC for some BBQ!!!) :chuckle:

Not the dealership per say.
I have a good relationship with both one service advisor and one of the mechanics that work on my car
Dealerships are in business to make money and they push items to accomplish that. When you take care of people who work on your car you remove that incentive.
I learned that from my father. RIP
I have always loved driving a stick shift ever since my first one a 1940 Pontiac 3 speed column shift. I love the comfort of the Infiniti its amenities and did not purchase this one or the last one to race it.

I do 100 miles a day round trip to work usually just on cruise control in the morning. I don't think my old G35 ever reved over 5k rpm. It will most likely end up at auction as the dealer put the car way back out of sight. Whoever buys it will have to spend some money on it including brakes (3mm left), leaking differential seal, and an Intermittent
ballast on the left front headlight.

I didn't want to start spending lots of money on it and possible risk breaking down in North Carolina :chuckle: on a drive to Florida

How far are you from the Smithfield NC mall exit 95 on Route 95?
Wife likes to kill about 2 hours there when we drive to Florida
We had NC BBQ once at The Blackwater Grill in Lumberton, NC where we once spent the night on the way home

Love the new vehicle but:

Do we have any experts here on the subject of Nissan/Infiniti OEM Factory radios?

What changed between my OEM Sirius Radio in my 06 G35 and 2012 OEM XM Radios?

i haven't quite figured out if it is Sirius/XM or Nissan/Infiniti that is screwing the customer?

From what perspective, monthly cost (Sirius/XM)?

I would argue the opposite. I don't think $2800 prorated over 7 years is worth risking the performance of a $14,000 engine in a $40,000 car.

I love that shade of blue.

So far it is doing fine. No pinging.
I was told by more than one service person regular is fine.
I have used 3/4 of a tank of gas that came with the car. I will get my first fillup tomorrow morning at a nearby WAWA.
The dealer does not give customers a full tank of premium so the vehicle has already adjusted itself for regular. I do not race and on the 50 mile daily drive to work I am on cruise control at 62MPH at least for a time.
Very comfortable, improved clutch from my 06 G35, much easier to swap out the twin air filters, improved dipstick.

So far I am not happy with losing a couple of OEM radio features that I had in my 06 G35 and the Navigation System does not appear to be as user friendly as my $99.00 portable Garman. I'll have to spend more time with the owners manual on using the navigation system.

Awesome new ride, I never thought I would see the day. :)

Your maintenance habits are interesting, but not surprising that you had such positive results. It really says a lot for your style of driving, most people would have had some sort of issue. Kudos

Component wise....not a lot it might have a better antenna and the display is completely different. Now the AV system on the car is completely different than your previous model. Back in the day everything was separate, now everything is run through one main AV computer. It is faster, more powerful, and much more reliable.
The XM/Infiniti deal kinda sucks...90 days free then it costs about $11-14/mo for full functionality of the radio, nav traffic, and weather.
On the other hand is a feature that many people really like and see the subscription as fair.

Relevant to this question, when I purchased my 2012 G37x, I had been looking into the prepaid maintenance program, and asked whether it covered the ester oil recommended in the owner manual.

I was told the program didn’t cover it, and was provided a copy of a Service Contracts Bulletin from Infiniti (Aug 9, 2010, Reference ISCB10-012) which states:
“Genuine Ester Oil is not a requirement for any Infiniti models and remains an available and higher cost option. The service specification for engine oil is API SERVICE SM SAE 5W-30 on all Infiniti models.”

Later on, it states:
“Ester Oil was originally developed for the 2008 G37 Coupe equipped with the 3.7L engine and VVEL technology. Reprogramming the ECM per Infiniti Technical Bulletin ITB08-028b dated October 23, 2009 has eliminated the need for ester oil on the 2008 G37 Coupe. Likewise, later model vehicles with the VVEL technology have the latest ECM reprogramming eliminating any future requirement for ester oil.”

My Infiniti dealer uses non-synthetic 5W-30 oil.

That is exactly what I used 53 times in my 06 G35 with 171796 miles.
Engine still ran like new. I just decided not to sink over $1000 in new brakes,as the brakes were only replaced once at 85k miles. It also needed a differential seal replacement and the exhaust pipes from the catalytic convertor back were pretty well rusted and close to shot. Also had an intermittent ballast on the LF headlight which I was told was $600 to replace.
Hard to say goodby but I think I made the right decision
All new parts and a warranty is hard to beat

Withdrawals only hurt for a short time

The XM radio does not have the dropouts in signal that I had in my 06 Sirius but here is what is driving me crazy

On my 06 driving home I could check the markets on CNBC channel 112 and receive scrolling stock quotes and market averages
Image

On my $79.00 portable Sirius Sportster radio I get stock quotes

But not on my $43k new Infiniti with an XM radio and having to pay $11.00 more a month for Howard Stern and weather and traffic

yeah i know its supposed to adjust, even though it really wants premium... i'm more concerned with the long term effects. your mild driving style should allow you to get away with regular gas.

yeah the NAV takes a minute to get used to.. what I've learned is not to put "rd, ave, st, cir" but just the road number, name, and city then select from the List the exact road. hope that relieves some frustration in typing in an address.

So far my G37x has been problem free at 72k miles, and i far from baby my car. I expect your G37S to last a long time.

How do you like the sport seats? I felt they were a bit too stiff and I was too big for the lower portion...but the suspension/brakes make up for it.

The seats are very comfortable.

I probably would not have chosen the illuminated kick plates but I like them,

I probably would not have chosen the black grill but the vehicle came with it and I now like it

I probably would not have chosen a rear spoiler but the vehicle came with it and it contains the backup camera and I now like it.

I probably would not wish for rain on my G but it looks good after a rain

No scrolling text huh....that is really interesting.

I cannot tell you how many times people have asked me to turn that off on their radios. I guess when they were market testing new features that is one that only a small handful of people used. I do like that the display now displays more data, but I can see where that might annoy you.

I really like the kick plates, can't wait to get some.

What I have been able to find out is that the XM Radio in the Infiniti is made by Clarion and does not have this feature

Sirius Radios in Fords do have the feature

http://www.clarion.com/us/en/support/index.html

I've been unable to have my technical questions answered by anyone in customer service at Clarion, Sirius/XM, or Infiniti.
What I do know is that Sirius Radios use satellites that were launched for Sirius and are at a particular angle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirius_XM_Radio
XM uses different satellites and more of them that are at a lower angle which results at fewer dropouts than Sirius radio recption.
It is one company now using both sets of satellites.
Since CNBC is carried on both sets of satellites I cannot get my question answered if the stock market data is present on the XM CNBC channel and if not why not?
Or is it that the XM radios are unable to decode that digital information?
The radios should have an option to toggle on or off and scrolling data. Whether it is stock quotes, sports scores, or weather data it should not be a show stopper to have the ability to turn this feature on or off.
