I had a great kill today. Actually a double kill. One that I'll probably never forget. Here's my story:

I'm driving back to work today after lunch, sitting in the left lane at a red light about to turn green, scratching off a lottery ticket and not paying much attention to the traffic behind me, but it's very light. (For the locals, Main Ave. southbound at Greenback in O'vale) The road loses a lane about 100 yards after the light and then it's one lane for the next three miles. It's nice to be in the lead when the second lane goes away.

Out of the corner of my eye (not the mirrors) I see the front end of a white Furd creeping up next to me looking like he wants to beat me off the line. Not to be outdone by some crummy 8 cylinder Furd I gas it and within 2 seconds am doing 45 mph (in a 35 zone) and looking at him in my rearview mirror. My chuckle is cut short as I make eye contact with my kill in the rear view mirror- A County Sheriff (with a full light bar) followed by a black and white CHP. For the record I did beat them both fair and square. I think the Sheriff even had a rolling start.

Imagine my surprise! I slowed down to the speed limit quickly and they followed me for the next 1/4 mile. Fortunately for me the nice officers must have had bigger fish to go after because as I non-chalontley (sp?) pulled into the donut shop parking lot expecting company they drove on down the road.

I think I'll lay low and not drive that street for a couple of weeks. Give them a chance to get over the loss.

A nonchalant kill is the best kind.

One must recognize the "Police Interceptor" "stance". Very VIP.

too funny Mike!they were prolly too embarrassed to have to call for backup to catch an old Q.

i *do* love how the Q eminates those stealth waves. most of our law enforcement heroes just seem to look past the classy 'grandpa car' and on to the punks with fart pipes.

Reminds me of that episode of the Family Guy where Meg is on her driving exam and races a cop... Maybe you're good luck is related to the fact you pulled into a doughnut shop! "Ahh hell he's one of us... look where's he's going."

While we're on the subject of kills, I'd like to share an experience I had with a 540i this past Friday.

My brother and I were headed home from the studio around 11 PM. From one light to the next, we were challenged by this black 540. This guy couldn't leave well enough alone. I'm doing speed limit (40) and this guy just keeps speeding up in the next lane and is trying to ride side by side. He catches my brother's eye and it's on.

At the next light, I switch to my favorite racing song ("Need For Speed") and wait for this sucker to stage himself. As soon as the intro ended, the light turned green. It was like something out of the movies. It was as if it was scripted. I punch the gas (Didn't even floor it) and I'm out like a light.

The stars were aligned and the heavens were smiling on me. The transmission was behaving A-OK (pretty good lately) and the first gear start was perfect. I backed off the gas when I hit 40 (Speed limit) and I told my brother to look back. Much to our amusement, the 540 had just crossed the intersection. I told my brother "Look at how far back he is, and I'm doing the speed limit."

I wonder how that Beamer felt.
