we will go..

From 4th...to 3rd...to 4th...to 3rd...to 4th...to cut it out, already!

First of all, those of you who drive a 4th Gen with a slushbox are used to having it hunt between 3rd and 4th at speeds lower than 40mph. I know I am..and when I am not, I flip off (with my thumb, that is) the O/D button.

OK, so I installed a set of NGK Iridium plugs into my VQ this weekend, and the first thing I noticed was how the idle became so quiet and smooth.

Another thing I noticed was out on the highway. My auto-manic was doing its hunting thing, but now the cycling back and forth began up at 55mph and below!

Like, WTH? Did the plug swap shift the power band? The plugs were the same heat range as the previous set...which were Platinum, and not Iridium.

So, is there something special about these Iridium plugs, vis-a-vis, their poorer Platinum cousins?

Is this "Good news?" or "Bad news?"

Just like tires............wow my brand new tires are so much better than my worn out hard treadless piece of junk old tires.

Clean brand new spark plugs are always the number 1 diagnostic tool vs old gap worn dirty deposit embedded plugs!

Yeah, they are not designed for the engine like their "poorer" Laser Platinum plugs. Imagine i you had used those!

That is only because they were not around when the engine was built.

Other than the caveat to use only NGK plugs, I have not seen nor heard any caveats about not using NGK iridium plugs in place of NGK platinum. Iridium is a step up from platinum, but maybe not as great as platinum is a step up from copper.

But...I digress.

IMHO, if the great engineers at Nissan had designed the automatic properly in the first place, it would not hunt between gears at all. The torque convertor that they chose to use is a piece of junk, and the source of most of the problems with the transmission.
