Had a similar experience on my last car. First pair of Silverstars lasted 6 months - I chalked it up to something like accidentally touching the bulb on install. Second pair lasted about 6 months. Great light output, but I don't think it outrageous to expect more than a year out of these things.Onyxblue wrote:I am looking for a good head light bulb (not HID). Do you have any good advice?
I have had 2 sets of Sylvania Silverstar and Extravision - good light and brighter then the OEM ones, but their life sucks - no more than 5 or 6 months!
I'm sure oncoming drivers appreciate that...superskunk wrote:i used to have silverstar ultras... they only lasted me 8 months... so then i just upgraded to 35w 6000k HID...
Did you figure out the angle of them yet or are they still pointed 3 feet in front of the car?superskunk wrote:i used to have silverstar ultras... they only lasted me 8 months... so then i just upgraded to 35w 6000k HID...
ive never had any complaints from people waiting at lights or anything, the key is adjusting them... you did know that you can adjust your headlights rite?Red Devil wrote:

I'm not sure if you installed a real HID kit, but if it's a nice one...it should have a built-in cut-off point as to not affect oncoming traffic that much. You can adjust your headlights, but there is still no cut-off point to the lights.superskunk wrote:ive never had any complaints from people waiting at lights or anything, the key is adjusting them... you did know that you can adjust your headlights rite?
Yes, I'm fully aware you can adjust headlights. There's a problem with putting HID's in a care not built for them. The light output is too much for the housing and you get glare. The only fix for excessive glare in that situation is to retrofit HID based projectors. Not plain old projectors mind you, there are halogen based projectors that offer no improvement over a similair reflector.superskunk wrote:the second pic is on a small hill... but yes mine do have glare shields....
