A Garrett gt30 turbo or a cheap fake?

My friend bought a turbo for cheap on ebay. When it arrived we had our doubts about it's authenticity. The add claimed it was a real garrett gt30 turbo. The word Garrett is stamped into both the turbine & compressor housings along with the ar size. All the other specs on this turbo match up with the specs on the real GT30 turbo except that my friend thinks that it is not a ball bearing turbo & it is only oil coooled where as the real turbo is both oil & water cooled. I know about the fake turbos floating around but the fit and finnish on this turbo looks pretty good. Any insight from you guys would be greatley appreciated.

i don't know of a way to tell the difference other than install it and see if it blows up in 500 miles.

Well I have confirmed that it is a cheap chinese copy so now it's time to try and get my buddies cash back. Thanks for the input.

That will never happen more than likely. Next time don't buy turbos on Ebay. Good luck.
