My nephew the mechanic put on the timing chain guides and all the front stuff. 350 in parts and about the same in labor, truck runs better now than ever and it is perfectly silent. More power and runs like new. I am so damn happy, at 183k the truck is smoother than a singer sewing machine. I love the D21 it is like new.Never doubt the toughness of a D21, 183k and this is the first part put on the motor. Hoses were original along with water pump and every bolt on part. My nephew said he almost hated to put on new pump hoses and thermostat. 1991 20 yrs old and the motor had never been touched............... BADAZZ tough truck. Not one part on the outside or inside had been replaced, not even the freaking hoses. he said inside of motor looked perfect, hint, change oil and do maintenance it pays off.

I wish Nissan had bottled up what made the HBs so special and used it on the new Frontiers, they didn't and it shows.

yeah i am happy as hell, you are right the hard bodies were and still are some tough reliable trucks. I kept the hoses and belts for spare emergency use. 20 yr old hoses and still usable LOL man they do not make em like they used to. I have to credit the first owner who bought it new in 91 he did all the maintenance and it shows. Have original sticker from window and a box full of bills paid for tires oil and brakes and wear stuff he replaced. he was not big on keeping it washed, when I got it, it took me a weekend to really clean it but he took care of the engine and drive train.

Glad to here that. From what I gather searching this forum, I will be doing mine soon too. Rattles on start up for 3-5 seconds. Gives me a good excuse to buy a new compressor and impact gun :naughty:

That was what started on mine but one guide was totally busted and was rattling at any rpm above 2200 or so. Fixed before any permanent damage was done thankfully.
