1). My brake lights were on the other day for no reason (i.e. the car was parked and not on) and it killed my battery. what would cause this? how do I fix this?

2). How do i remove the rearview mirror? I looked at the FSM and it didnt give any tips on removal (all it said was "remove mirror"). How do I get off the cover to get to the screws to remove and then adjust the mirror itself?

I believe that the brake light staying on indicates you have an issue with your braking system. I know there were some posts when people at ABS issues and that light came on.

For the rear view mirror, why are you trying to remove it?? Not an everyday repair so I haven't seen any posts on that.

If you review page BT-22. You will see in the picture (B) how to remove the cover that covers the screws to the mirror.

As for the brake lights I believe you have a rubber plug. The brake pedal is pressed against when the brake pedal is not depressed. It may have deformed over the years and thus nothing is stopping the brake pedal from hitting the brake light switch.

I've studied page BT-22 and it's not helpful AT ALL. mainly because I have no idea what a pawl is or what it does. Also on my brake pedal assembly there is no rubber boot attached to either shaft thats near the two holes on my brake pedal.

The items circled in red are where you should stick a plastic interior trim tool. Or screw driver covered in something so as to not scratch the trim piece. The circle with a question mark, Not sure if a Pawl exists in that area.

Is their anything between the stop lamp switch and metal brake pedal when the brake pedal is depressed? Can you take a picture?

I figured out the rear view mirror problem. Didn't even need to take off the cover to adjust the mirror :bs: . but atleast I know how to remove the mirror for future reference.

if you look on the back of the mirror face, there's a plug, pop it out with a small flat head (dont worry about damaging it it's rubber) then take a pretty good size crosspoint screwdriver and then tighten it up.
