hey guys i just picked up a 97 q45t with 100k, seems to be in great shape, loving it so far.

had a few questions regarding mods

i saw this car in the thread at the top of the pageposted by DORIMON with the following mods list

Work Euroline DH wheels 19x8.5 +7 19x9.5 +7 Falken ST115 235/35/19 Falken FK-452 265/30/19 WALD EXCHANGE EX Line Kit TEIN S.Tech Springs5Zigen Border GT ExhaustAnceltion Casual CurtainsNissan Cima Grill & Headlights

is that all this car is lowered on, s techs on stock shocks? can you get away using stock shocks on a q45? if not what kind of shocks, agx, tokico white, anything else? and no coils cut or anything? it seems way low for lowering springs (good), but i guess the kit is helping.

does anyone know off the top of their head if i would have any clearance issues using fx45 20s with the tein springs? have to remove fender liners or anything?

last question, does anyone know a good place to get window deflectors from at a reasonable price? the best ive turned up with google is 101.95.

thanks guys

This car is lowered with the Tein springs that you can only be sourced out of Japan. Falkdesigns is our man for these, around 300 bucks. Do NOT cut the springs, someone did that on this board, it is never a good idea.

The issue is that nothing aftermarket is available in the US. The shocks that are stock are pretty much crap. With 100k your shocks are history, so getting the teins from Kevin (Falkdesigns, do a search) will solve that problem but the harder problem is getting some KYB SR Specials, which are very pricy BUT are totally worth it. I have my 97' with this combo and it rocks. Onetongarage (Van Phan, another board member) got these for me but they are close to 700 bucks, but totally worth it. It will take a couple of months to get all of this stuff together, it will make the car handle MUCH better and also look way better.

The FX rims in either 20" or 18" will fit just fine, a few people have bolted them on and they fit fine. Most any Infiniti rims save the 06' M45 Sport rims bolt right on.

Good luck, search the board, you car is cool now but with the KYB SR Specials and Teins it is like night and day.

i agree with what 97Q45t said..... totally, he hit it right on...

When you start getting into 20inch wheels it becomes tough to find a good tire with a good load rating in the right size, it can be done but its tough... interestingly enough, 20inch tires are cheaper than 19s!!

Kevin (FalkDesigns) might have one set of Tein springs left, but if he is out I know of someone selling a used set. I bought my springs from Kevin and my KYB SR Specials from Van (Onetongarage). Both of these guys were very helpful with getting them to me. I'm still waiting on the KYBs to get here, but once they show up I'll be doing a full write-up. I know that a few guys have put the Teins over stock struts, but I would highly advise against it, unless you'll be doing all your own labor and are just impatient. The 20inch wheels will not rub, but IMO there are MUCH better wheel choices for the Y33.

Congratualtions on your new FY33!

Might consult your Infiniti dealer performed service history to see where you are on maintenenance. Most here start by replacing or mechanically exchanging all fluids for a baseline. Addding an ATF cooler is mandatory, and thanks to Skibane, it looks best to bypass the OEM "coke can" stock heat exchanger in the bottom of the radiator.

At 100K, you are probably due for plugs, intake manifold, IAC valve, TB, and EGR valve cleaning. Your shocks are probably shot (service history will tell you if they haven't been replaced), but you will neeed to get all the rubber and spring mounts from Joe. Van and Kevin are absolutely reliable to deal with. By following the posts on this board, most of htis can be done by yourself to get your Q45 if top condition.

Yeah, and 20's will definitely stress your suspension and brakes and slow your car down. 18" are probably the best bet unless you drive on airport runways or billiard tables exclusively. How are your brakes? Tension rods?

Be sure to download a FSM and TSB from http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti/ for a one day subscription.

And put your good sense filters on when reading posts from some newer members who think Beavis and Butthead are role models when it comes to things like cutting OEM coil springs! Same for removing fender liners if you drive in the real world.

When it comes to parts, OEM is best and Joe is your friend!

thanks for the info guys.

i was looking at the japanese tein site and i am seeing hy, my, and py33. hy33 is a cedric right? im not sure on the other ones. also sombody above me said fy33. could somone straighten me out on all the chassis codes?

300ish bucks sounds good for the springs. now if i put them on my existing struts, you guys are just saying not to do that because it will bounce/ probably blow them out right? i have no delusions of this thing being a sports car, just trying to make it look cool, please dont get mad at me hahah. i do all my own work so i was planning on getting the springs first and seeing how it rides / if they blow out then no biggie, 100k mile oem shocks, theyre probably leaking anyway.

on the wheels, i have searched and found a few pics of guys running the 20s, but does anyone have a pic of a car with the 18s? basically im looking for somthing cheap that will look better than stock that i can space out a little, a quick fix if you will. down the road ill probably get somthing nicer like some trafficstars or somthing. but not in the budget right now.

cullen could you give me some contact info for the guy selling the used s techs? im interested but i didnt find any for sale in the market place.

is a trans cooler really necessary? im not going to be doing any spirited driving in this car, just commuting/cruising around. the brakes seem to haul the car down pretty well, very controllable even before the ABS hits, i expected worse considering the curb weight of the car and the m+s tires. but it stops quite well. there is some vibration in the steering when slowing down however. ill just machine/change the rotors and get some new pads here in a bit. the rears looked pretty low anyway. tension rods i have not looked at, but at 100k+ miles id expect pretty much every rubber bushing to be blown.

wasnt saying that its a good idea to cut springs or anything, just looked like the car i originally posted mightve had a cm or 2 clipped from the teins, seemed low for just drop springs. also i have no problem with pulling fender liners, some dirt in the doors and wheel wells no biggie. i mean i wont do it if it dosent rub but if i need to no sweat off my back.

anybody know a cheap source for window deflectors?

The Teins drop the front ~2" and rear ~1.75". Dorimon is selling his, and he rode 20k on them with stock shocks, said it wasn't bad, but MD roads are awesome (too bad the cops there are Nazi's and you can't go over 65 anywhere). I put about 8k on mine with stock blown shocks before I got my KYB SR's from Japan and that's almost 2 years ago now. I have 19's on mine, and there's no reason to remove the fender liners at all.

Not sure where you can get those window deflectors, but the price you mentioned sounds pretty cheap to me! Trafficstar wheels, mmmmm

I'm the one that cut my stock coil springs. I've only done the front but I dropped it 1" with no side effects as of 1000 miles. It was free, easy and I took pride in proving the naysayers wrong. BTW, I replaced my stock struts with OEM at about the same time. I've attached a picture of my car with 350Z touring wheels 18X8 30 mm offset, 255/45 rear tires and 245/45 front.
