I just got my 240SX today, and I've noticed a few problems. It might sound like I got a lemon, but I have a warranty and the price was so low ($2500 and in great shape) I can overlook some initial expense. Number one, I think I have a bad throwout bearing, but want some opinions. It's a low sound, a cross between a moan and a grind depending on rpm. It doesn't do it in 4th or when the clutch is disengaged. Unfortunately, my warranty doesn't cover TOBs or clutches. I think if I get them replaced I'll get an ACT 2100.Second, I took it to the carwash, and water leaked in around the doors, passenger windows, and hatch. The weather stripping looks like it's in good shape, so I don't know what the problem is. Any ideas?Third, the rear wiper doesn't work. You can't hear the motor kick on, and the wiper arm will swing easily if you move it by hand. That's no biggie, but I'd like to fix it.Well, that's all (for now). Thanks for the space.

The wiper and motor are not connected and as for the TOB, when you push in the clutch do the RPM's go up or down?

The rpms go up slightly (50-100) when the clutch is in. Then, if I let it out in neutral, they drop about 50 -100 rpms below normal idle, and then immediately return to normal. I'm positive it's the TOB. I let a couple of people ride w/ me tonight, and that's what they said it was. Can't wait for my tax refund. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a countershaft bearing in the transmission going out.Reason being, you have two rows of gears in the trans, countershaft and mainshaft. While in fourth gear, the transmission does not load the gears between the two shafts. Fourth gear is a straight one to one ratio while in that gear and is really only using one shaft to transmit the power, therefore there isn't much of a load on the bearings. Alot of times, the noise will dissipate while in fourth gear under this comdition. There are six bearings in the 240 5-speed, would definitely replace them all while your inside the trans.

I think you're right. I checked the trans oil and it was low. It took three (THREE!) quarts to fill it. Whoever owned the car before me didn't pay much attention to maintainence. Fortunately, all lubricated internals are covered under my warranty, so I won't have to pay to get it fixed. Until I can, I guess it won't get worse since it's full now, right?

Nissan 5-speeds can last many miles with the bearing noise being audible, but on the other side of that scenario, you are also wearing the gears to a pattern of becoming noisy due to the counteshaft and mainshaft alignment not being parallel with each other. I would suggest going ahead and getting the vehicle repaired, it will only get worse and could cause other damage.

When you buy a $2500 car you must expect to spend the same amount soon on items that were deferred [why it was sold] some are unlucky or don't get full inspections and find the car needs $5000 [or $10,000] to approximate near new condition.

Yeah, good thing they gave me a warranty, huh?

By the way, where's the least expensive place to get an ACT 2100? I figured it might be cheaper than OE and I might as well have it done while the transmission's out.
