Sweetness, GMedicine. That looks kick-a$$.

I hope, though, that you were heavy on the sarcasm with your description of the stock system.

Putting the word amazing and stock stereo in the same sentence is sacreligious, no matter what stock system you're talking about.

ChieftanThanks for the compliment. The comment on the stock system was to be taken sarcastically- you know what they say- no highs, no lows, must be bose. In all honesty the stock system was actually not terrible, but I needed something better. Thanks again

I disagree, the Bose in my model is pretty awesome. Crisp, clear and loud. I don't think I will be doing aftermarket stereo. Maybe external DVD to the headrests and do the fix so the passenger can watch on the center console. Maybe my friends just have crappy systems, but my coworkers all have a few thousand dollars dumped into thier car audio and none sound as clear as the G when cranked up. The 3 10" subs are perfect I think. Just my two cents... BTW looks awesome though. Maybe after the G is complete I will do the sound...

Thanks G whizz - not sure how to get the bigger pics. Maybe post them one at a time? I'm using photobucket by the way.

As far as the bose system goes, mine was ok, but I haven't heard the 2008 model. I heard they were doing 10's in the doors-that's awesome. They really are getting better and better. FYI - I am still using the bose deck and speakers, they sound surprisingly good with about 10 times the factory power and a little EQ.

First off thanks for all of the compliments

EzG,

We (My installer Chris Stark and I) decided to leave the stock deck and speakers and to just put more power to them to see how it sounded. It ended sounding really good, so we left them. As far as equipment goes, I have an Audiocontrol 4.1 in the upper glove box(trim piece still to be made), high end cables and speaker wires all covered in snakeskin, 2 Memphis amps: one 4-channel and one 2-channel for the sub(not sure the model numbers, but they were the top-of-the-line Memphis stuff). The sub is a JL Audio 10w7 in about 1.3 cubes sealed. The inside and front of the subwoofer box, and the amprack are painted to match the car (ivory pearl).

The back of the sub box is 3/4" Plexi and I made the insert piece with the infiniti logo located inside of the subwoofer box. All the trim panels are covered in black vinyl, with the exception of the front trim on the sub box, which will be dyed(sp) to match the interior leather. There's about 50 hours of labor just in the box and so far about 80-90 hours in total. Still have a couple more pieces to make. Will post more pics as we finish the project. Please let me know if you have any more questions, I'll be glad to answer them.

Attempt at larger pics(those small ones do not do it any justice):

I know this should be in the car audio forum, but any suggestions on making the factory system sound better or doing some surgery on it?

I've got the non-bose system in my 05 coupe and I HATE IT, but I don't have tons of money to go bling bling like GMedicine.

I don't mind doing the work myself, but car audio is completely out of my product realm.

I saw that a while back and forgot about the $200-$300 in installation. I think I can save up $400 and do it myself!!!

OK I have a Q...is there a hole in your back seat? Can you post pics of the interior? I really want to put some subs int the back seat kinda like the GT-R has show us some more pics. I like what you have shown so far though. Also is the spare tire removed?

Sentient - all you really need is an amp and an eq to make the system a LOT better. The Bose speakers actually sound halfway decent with more power and a little eq. I have 5 bands of eq and 100 times 4 amp going to the stock Bose speakers and there is a huge difference. Just disconnect the amp in the trunk and tap in at the factory amp for the speakers, should not be much for the install.

G whizz - thank you very much, it feels good that someone appreciates all of the hard work

Turbo - no hole in the back seat. It folds down if I feel the need. Why do you need a hole in the seat? It sounds great without any holes. Not sure what the GT-R has. The interior is completely untouched, and yes I had to lose the spare unfortunately...sacrifices.

Thank you GMedicine. I actually have the base system, not the bose. I'll look into your suggestion to see if it's possible to drive the non-bose system a little higher, or I can always find a wrecked G with bose and steal it lol

Could you post schematics. Or are these for your use only? I would be interested in doing something similar.

Love the Memphis Amps...you went all out on those. Its not the bose speakers that sound good, its just that those amps are off the charts sick.

Nice, sweet clean install on that sub. Love the work. Did you build a box to fit and have a cover/trim piece? Or is the box built into the trunk?

I'd be willing to bet if you replaced those bose speakers with a nice set of Hertz/Audison speakers you'd fall more in love with your set up.

OH ya, and a different head unit, cuz the stock licks.

Turbo - you mean a wiring diagram? I'll help however I can, let me know exactly what you want.

tollboothwilley - Thanks for the compliments. I do like those memphis amps alot, powerful and clean. The box is made so that the front angle is roughly the same as the back seat, the rest of the box is your basic square box with plexi on the back. We made trim pieces to hide all of the wood and things we didn't want to see. I have more install pictures if you would like to see them. I wanted to preserve as much of the stock system as possible, this is my first new car and didn't want to rip all of the panels off quite yet. If the bose system didn't sound good with the extra power and sub I was going to replace at least the front components, but it actually sounds very good so I left them in. Plus I already spent more than I was planning on the system...such is car audio.

You're trunk looks awesome.

When i was hooking up the audio system in my old car i used http://www.ikesound.com/

They usually have some good deals. Orion makes some good stuff at a lower price. I have a 1200 watt orion amp and 2 12" kicker CompVRs in my buick and they hit hard. I just dont want a system in my G. Adds weight and I have underdrive pullies.

I don't need a wiring diagram. I would like to know how you made the box with plexi and how it is all installed. It might be impossible to explain without seeing it. I would like to replicate this to some extent, minus the 80 to 90 hours that I don't have. I'm an engineer and fairly handy, so I think I would be able to build this if there isn't too many specialized tools involved. About what was the cost for the materials for the box, I can't imagine 3/4 inch plexi is cheap. If you could get me some dimensions I could pry draw something up in CAD. Anyways any info on dimensions and materials would be helpful. If you want you can email me info if that's easier, addy is in my profile. medurbin@gmail

Thanks Teflon, much appreciated

Turbo - Let me know if these pictures help. You can see the lip that plexi sits in - the back of the box is two layer of 3/4" MDF in order to accomodate the plexi. There are different ways of attaching the plexi, but this one ensures no leakage. Materials weren't too expensive - wood was about $30, only needed a small amount of plexi which was only $35, some screws, bondo and a ton of sandpaper. The most costly part was the paint - something like $175 for a quart of the base and pearl. If you want to finish the inside of the box, expect to spend a lot of time finishing any areas that you're going to see. No special tools required besides a jigsaw and drill, router and table saw would be nice, but not absolutely necessary. I work full time and so does my installer, we had to match up schedules and such, which isn't always easy. Key is not to rush it, take your time and be patient. Dimensions largely depend on the type and size of subwoofer you are going with. No need for CAD, unless you think that would be easier. Let me know if you have questions.
