he guys. well heres the situation. theres a few things not working properly, and was wondering how big of a hastle it will be to fix. first is that my speedo has never worked in the year and a bit i've owned my car ('90 240sx FB) sometimes it will be 15-30 Km over, other times it will be 10 Km under, on a few occasions it flys up to 180Km and will just sit there, and the rest of the time it sits on 0. now heres the funny thing (and i've only really observed this once, but i've never actually stopped to look into it too much) when the speedo is out the speed/performance/and pull of the car are actually out as well. for example, and this is that one time i mentioned, i was on a downslope (10 degrees or so) and my speedo was flatlined at 0 while i drove, i had to come to a stop on the hill (speedo still at 0) and while at 0, the car actually wanted to pull backwards, back up the hill. then a little while later the speedo jumped around again and was doing the 15 Km over thing and this 'reverse pull' wasn't there anymore. any ideas on that one.second, a couple months ago i had to replace my rear subframe assembly, and in the process i broke the connector to the sensor attatched to my diff. after everything was fixed, while driving i noticed my ABS light was always on on my cluster, and later on realized that my ABS was not working as i would just skidd if i hit the brakes to hard. is that connector i broke the ABS sensor?and third, more recently i replaced my clutch, and when it was all said and done, my odometer and trip odometer stopped working. i bought an electrical cleaner made to cut grease, grit, grime out of electrical conections and soaked all 4 sensor connectors that are attatched to my transmission, but still no luck. what would have caused my odometer and trip odometer to stop working?

well thats all for now. i appologize for the length. if anyone out there can lend a hand it will be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Well, I'm pretty sure that the sensor that you broke when replacing your rear subframe spacers was your ABS sensor... IMO the other issues that you are experiencing might not necessarily be connected.... I mean the odometer and trip going out might not be connected to anything that you did but could have to do with your speedometer issues... I know that for my 1990 240 my odometer sometimes stops working (one time for as much as 100 miles or so) and then starts again. I believe that is b/c of one gear that is missing a few teeth, but I haven't investigated it. I have no idea what the deal is with your 'reverse pull' issue... I'd think that since you only observed it once that it was a fluke and I wouldn't worry about it inless it happens again. (do you have an auto or manual?) and as for the speedometer being out, I don't really have anything to help you with there..... sorry. I know that my tach has acted up on my car a few times (it's only happened after I thoroghly cleaned my MAF sensor though) so I believe that it's only tied to that and nothing else.... Sorry that I wasn't of any more help to you. Good luck!

first fix the abs sensor in the rear diff then see how things work, if it still acts up check the speed sensor in the trans.......

thanx for advice so far. a couple notes however:

Arrow - i'm pretty sure that all 3 problems are all separate problems. there is no connection between any of them, as they all occured at completely different times. i'm pretty sure my odometer and speedo aren't connected as my odometer has always worked up until this point (after replacing my clutch) and yes its a standard. my tach has always worked, however my speedo has not.

I wasn't too sure if you were trying to make a connection or anything... sorry if I missunderstood you or came across wrong. I also was really bored and just trying to occupy some time before dismantling my SOHC engine that was/is sitting in my shed.... anyway, I hope that you find and fix your problems! Good luck!

okay, with the added info I would say that from what I can gather if your odometer works and the speedo does not then the problem is inside the cluster as they use the same signal and this may be the cause of the odometer eventually failing and the abs light is directly related to the sensor in the differential which measures rear wheel speed independently of the front wheels and it is not linked to the failure of the cluster, first fix the sensor and find a used cluster to put in ( they are plentiful on ebay ) that should actually fix all of your problems if not most of them
