I did some searching around, so before you flame me and tell me do go do a search please just read my simple questions. Ive seen the rb25 install kits, I think from http://www.supertunermotorsports.com and the kit is only 695 dollars. -Other than mounts and harnesses is this a drop in swap?-Will I need a custom drive shaft?-Can a use an rb rear diff?-Is there welding involved?-Ive done swaps before, but mostly hondas.. and those are a walk in the park. What kind of difficulty level am I looking at with this project?-Approximately how much time will it take with one helper?-What kind of difficulties have you run into with your rb25?-Other than the cost of install, and cost of the clip, how much more would you say it would cost to complete this project?

Suggestions, comments and critisizms are always helpful, If anyone is willing to aid me in any way it would be greatly appreciated.

Depedsn on how in depth you wanna go. Besides getting a driveshaft madde for teh RB25 (unless you buy one), the swap is can be pretty straight forward. Are you going to do routien maintenance or in deoth maintenace. I did nothign and it took us 3 days to install. We worked around what 8 hours a day McAdam???

I can see the swap taking about 3 days, like you said. I went WAY in depth with my swap and including having to get a second motor and fully weldinging & painting the car it took 7 months.

A friend has an RB25DET on the way and he is getting the Supertuner mounts so I will let you know from there how it goes, probably end of the month/beginning of next month.

I AM TAKING THE LONG ROUTE TO UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING ABOUT THE MOTOR AND CAR. BUT IF YOU HAVE ALL THE PARTS LYING OUT AND READY TO GO AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING YOU COULD HAVE THE CAR SWAPPED AND RUNNING IN 3-4HOURS, OTHER WISE IT'LL TAKE SOME TIME.

I wsh I had taken my time and done in depth maintenace. Would ahe saved me some heartache. I may be doin ganohter swap (it wont be Nissan though) and I WILL take my time. Everything will changed. Head gasket. Timing belt. Clutch, flywheel...EVERYTHING. That wuld be my suggestion. Had I replaced that stuff, sure it would have been an *** of money, but it would also have given me piece of mind. And piece of mind is killer

I DID IT TO KNOW WHERE ALL THE NUTS AND BOLTS ARE, WHAT THE FASTEST ROUTE IS TO CHANGE COMMON THINGS, WHAT AREAS NEED IMPROVEMENT, KNOW WHAT EVERY SENSOR IS AND WHAT I'M SPLICING ON THE 240.

yeah I do really want to do the maintenance.. clutch.. flywheel, headgasket, water pump.. Other than the cost of the motor, how much on top of that did it take you to just get it into the car? And.. did you make your own driveshaft or did you buy it?

Well I have an RB20, so there is no need for a driveshaft. Here were my after motor exspenses

$90-2 10" electric fans (get at least 12" in my opinion)$90-fuel pump (never installed it, but recommended)$30-boost gauge$35-water temp gauge$15-6 spark plugs $35-triple gauge pod$50-Aftermarket tach (not needed if you get a RB cluster)$500-Instal help. McAdam of these boards lent a HUGE helping hand plus brought down his cool tools. Thanks Again!!!)I am sure I am missing something...cant think right now. But that is the gist of it

Here's a list I have come up with that I have done / will be doing for my RB20.

Code: Select all

Clip: Motor Transmission ECU Harness Intake Filter---------------------- $ 1500

  Turbo $ 395 Manifold $ 300 Head gasket $ 250 Head studs $ 180 Injectors $ 140 Water pump $ 86 Timing belt $ 56 Thermostat $ 10 Fuel filter $ 10 Oil filter $ 8

Not yet purchased: 240sx LOL $ 2500 Intercooler $ 700 Gauges $ 500 Computer $ 300 Clutch $ 300 Downpipe $ 240 Catback $ 200 BOV $ 200 Radiator fan $ 200 Airflow meter $ 180 Fuel pump $ 180 I/E gaskets $ 20 Spark plugs $ 15
I don't know if a Walbro will drop into the 240's pump, that's why it's so high. Haven't priced radiator fans, its kinda high. May have to get the flywheel resurfaced. Cool thing is the clip came with coilovers and wheels/tires. Don't need to buy those.

do NOT buy from supertunermotorsports

their mounts dont fit, dont do what they advertise when you fix what they did wrong with them and their wiring "7 day turnaround" is over a month for myself and a friend.

spend the money and go with mckinney.

I COULD HELP YOU WITH YOUR WIRING IF YOU HAVE BASIC ELECTRICAL SKILLS (IE: STIPPING, CRIMPING, HEAT SHRINKING, ETC.). YOU DON'T NEED MOUNTS, THE DP IS THE SAME, THE DRIVESHAFT JUST NEEDS TO BE MADE/PURCHASED.

here is the thing.

i know how to wire, i know how to read diagrams. i went with them because i wanted it done fast to save headaches because nobody can give you a direct answer on how to wire a 97 240sx to a 96 rb25det with a type II ignition.

im using a RB20 transmission so i went with their mounts because it was supposed to move the motor back so i wouldnt need to deal with a custom driveshaft.

all this damn time ive wasted i could have figured out the wiring for myself.

yes, type II ignition.

just an example, my igniter is contained within each coil pack. so i dont have one on the top of my spark plug cover.

MY CLIP IS A RB20 BUT THE MOTOR DIMENSIONS ARE THE SAME. THEY BOTH SIT ALMOST EXACTLY IN THE SAME POSITION IN THE ENGINE BAY. TO SAVE YOUR MONEY ON MOUNTS YOU NEED TO CUT THE HOOD SKELETON FOR CLEARANCE. THE DS NEEDS TO BE MADE BECAUSE THE RB25 transmission IS LONGER.

HEY KAMIN DO YOU HAVE A RB25 transmission?

no, if i did i would be using it. i dont want to use a POS rb20 transmission that wont hold 400whp.

and to do it surfmans's way silviadreams, you need the R33 crossmember AND the mounts from the r33. and clips arent 1500$ anymore, they havent been that price in almost a year. your looking at 3000+ now for a good one.

supply and demand is a *****.

I COULD BRING IN A WHOLE CAR FOR YOU AT A LITTLE OVER DOUBLE THAT. THAT MEENS BODY PANELS, ENGINE SET, INTERIOR, TAIL LIGHTS, WHEELS, BRAKES, LSD, ETC. AND YOU KNOW EXACTLY THE TYPE OF CAR IT IS COMING OUT OF.

yea well some people dont have connections in japan to have motors/cars imported.

so the market value is around 3000.

I KNOW THATS WHY I OFFERED MY SERVICES. ANYWAY YOU ARE LOOKING AT EXTREMELY HIGH PRICES BECAUSE OF THE HYPE, AVAILABLITY, AND THE DEMAND.

Thats why it didnt bolt up. The rb20 transmission is smaller and has the mounts in a different spot. Did you call them and see what happened?

the crossmember mounts have nothing to do with the transmission.

and those mount problems arent related to my car, they are off the other s14 rb25 hybrid that my friend is doing, we both got wiring and mounts done at STM. his is a rb25 engine and transmission. and after some measuring we concluded the motor didnt move 1 inch. damnit the motor didnt move 1/10th of an inch. and the money we spent on their mounts accomplished NOTHING other than not having to cut the hood skeleton.

and yes we have called, left messages and emails.they dont respond. i think its about time for a lawyer to get involved.
