Post

Ok as I stated in my original post I'm new and I hate to ask stupid questions, but honestly it would take me forever to read every post in here to find the answers I'm looking for, so please don't flame me. I know most would say that the sr20DET is the way to go, other would say that turboing the KA is just as good then there is the RB crowd. Having said this I will state my opinion...yes the SR is tried and true and while you may get a larger parts selection there is no replacement for displacement... as far as the RB goes its a Skyline block so it's a more expensive option, one that I can't afford. Having said this I have a few questions.1) The s12 200sx came to america with the VG30 block found in the Z32 300ZX so has anyone swapped in a VG30DETT from the 300Z into the RPS13? I would assume it would fit since the RB26DETT fits but what would be the wiring situation, wouldn't you be able to just rip the whole asembly (Engine block, mounts trans wiring harness and ecu) out of a wrecked 300Z and drop it into the 240sx or would it be more than that? (I'm not mechanically stupid so I do know the whole process of an engine swap is more complex than that)2) Having stated that there is no replacement for displacement, would it make more sense to build up and turbo a KA block or doa full SR swap and install the displacement up package from TODA? 3) I know it's all up to personal preference and bank roll but who makes the best internals for the KA? I'm mostly wondering about the pistons, rods and crankshaft. I intend to build up my block so that it is seriously bulletproof before I do a turbo install, and being that the internals take the biggest beating under boost it only makes sense to build up before boosting an old engine.4) Stupid question alert...aside from the drive change RWD to FWD what is the difference between the JDM SR20DE found in the non turbo Silvias and the SR20DE found in the 200sx SE-r and Infiniti G20?5) FInally, in the event I'm only able to find an automatic trans RPS13 can anyone tell me a rough estimate on doing a 5 speed transmission swap (parts and install) I could probably find a transmission in a local junkyard and just replace the clutch and flywheel for around $800 (most of that is the expense of a stage 1 clutch and Fidanza flywheel) and I've read the FAQ on how to do the swap, just don't have the space or tools to do it myself.Again please don't flame me and I have already started reading up to try to find the answers myself. Thank you in advance for any info you guys give me.

For question 2 -The Toda stroker kit or any other kit would probably cost as much as buying yourself an RB26 or something. They are expensive and arnet really required unless you decide to start driving in the JGTC or something I mean, Phase2 has them for 6,400 dollars!!!

If you got an SR20, just stick with that 2 litres. Don't worry about upping the displacement, just spend the money on some turbo upgrades or something.

for question 3, the stock rods and crankshaft on the ka are insanely strong...just how much power are you looking to make?

also you keep saying RPS13...just so you know the p in that is the code for the sr20...so an s13 hatch with the sohc engine (89-90) is an RHS13, and the 91 on are RMS13 with the dohc engine, etc.

Good lookin out, thanks for that chassis code correction, as far as the internals go, I think I'd be happy with 350 HP so judging by what I've read I guess I can just keep with the stock internals if I ever do get to turbo it. I'm just concerned with blowing up my engine because its got more than 100K on it.

you'd want new pistons though for a turbo ka

Which bring me back to question 3, who makes the best pistons for the KA, and should I go with aluminum Iron or hypereutectic(sp?)?

for the price of a stroker you could completely build the sr up and have a bunch of spare blocks in your garage or room so i dont recommend it. if you really want a vg30 i suggest you just go buy a Z its so much easier that way the body is bigger but it makes the car more stable. if you do things like that on a 240 you'll have sick weight distribution.

just don't think too far ahead. u got no money as you said you have no tools. all your ideas are cute thats nice. an rb26 would be an easier swap than the vg30. its a lot more straight forward and its inline 6 so the block is more narrow vs the v6. i've seen my friends shop do some rbs.

what are you planning on doing? build a drag car? are u trying to "drift" if you are then dump all your ideas and pick up an lsd, some tires, grow some balls and save up for some nice suspension pieces.

if you plan on doing all this to drag the 240 will never be anywhere close to the other cars out there. so i suggest you to not care so much about HP.

theres no such thing as a bulletproof motor. bring it to me and ill crack it. the KA block is so cheap youc an replace it so fast so whats the use.

you dont even have the car yet. cool
